Marcinek I appreciate your commits, u seem to have a lot of knowledge abouts blade geometry. What brand of knife would u recommend me. I need a fixed blade that is tough as nails. About 5 to 7 in blade length. I am a hunter/ woodsman so I need it to be very sharp as well for skinning. Blood can be a problem so I need something that won't rust easily. But I need it to be tough mostly. I have the fehrman but I would like to get something else. I have a passion for blades. I would love to make them but grinders are expensive. I'm going to build one this spring. Any recommend knives would be appreciated.

Skinners are usually thin slicers. They are not typically bomb proof, tough-as-nails smasher/chopper/bashers.

One knife will not do both well.

One knife will do OK for both....I'm sure the ESEE and Becker crowds will come in with their suggestions. I'd suggest the Fallkniven S1...but that's convexed.

I'll throw the KaBar Mark 1 out there for your consideration...a bit off the beaten path...not one of the "usual suspects" when "all-around outdoors knives" are discussed. Nice, proven, full flat grind...should do just about anything nicely.

Benchmade 162 would suit your needs as well.

Dozier ks7 wilderness knife. Everything you need nothing you don't.

Thank everyone, I like the dozier. Ka-bar and the benchmade would def work, but I may go for the dozier. I really learned a lot talkin whith u steel junkies on here. I live near southern ind., northern ky. We hunt a lot. Everyman carries a knife. And a lot of people make there own knives and tools . Knives are very important to me. I will be around the forums to ask more questions.

There are a few great custom makers in your area.

Yup as others have stated geometry plays a big role in how a knife cuts, I just learned that one more recently I thought steel was the determining factor till this last year. Knives are simple tools until you get into them, than well it just plain sucks with how complicated it can get if you get really into it.

I can't comment on what work best for you in terms of knives for geometry as I am still a bit new to this as well. But if your worried about rust you should be looking at stainless steel blades and if you get a chance you should be wiping them dry if you get the chance before dropping it back in your pocket or sheath whether it's carbon or stainless steel and than cleaning them with when you get a chance in my opinion.

Best of luck on your next knife purchase whatever it may be, I hope you enjoy it.

having watched the SNL version of "Miracles" by ICP many times, I've learned the fine art of discerning satire from reality even when they are seemingly indistinguishable. Much like the SNL version of "Miracles", by ICP, the Ds&S Tactical website is a clever ruse designed to be satire recognizable by only the keenest minds.
For example:
which one is the joke(ds&s) and which one is the retarted reality(ICP)?

happy hunting!

Yea I learned over the last year a lot 2 and there is so much more to learn , that is what hooked me. I've always been a country boy and never had a lot, never had anything I didn't work for one way or the other. I pride myself by owning my fehrman l.c and e. r rao because I don't have a lot but I have a few really nice knives. I try to learn everything I can about how to make knives. I hopefully will be attempting to cut, grind , and ht a piece of steel next year. I'm trying to build a grinder. After that an oven to ht. there is a lot to heat treating, hopefully ill be able to make somthing

Hmmm....overbuilt, beefy, heavy, made of the latest materials, marketed towards "operator" types....

Sounds familiar.

I have had dealings with this company, and would encourage you to seek out other custom knife makers.

Typical operator's don't have the proper training, bionic enhancements and security clearances to handle a weapon of that magnitude. You have to be a genetically enhanced cyborg spartan-pirate-ninja killing machine of LEGEND to handle that much awesome.

I'm pretty new to the forums and new to the world of steel. I've been looking to get a new fixed blade from DS&S Tactical, but they are pretty pricey. I was just wondering if anyone on the forums has had any experience with them. I like their bullshark blade. There website is www.ds-tactical.org. They claim they are the best in the world. They use stainless steels like Elmax and M390, which is very good if HT correctly. They also offer a nano technology which is applied to the steel somehow as an upgrade (very expensive ). Any info on how good these beautiful blades are will be appreciated.

I have had dealings with these folks. Up front they will be nice and take your money. You pay 100% up front. But then the games will likely begin. They may 'forget' exactly what you ordered, or try to sub out what you originally ordered, telling you that the materials you wanted are no longer available, but if you keep waiting they might be. Then you will continue to wait and wait. All you are waiting for, however, are more excuses to come, and more updates that will leave you wondering if they know what you ordered . . . If you are real lucky you may get your money back. Or you may get a knife that is 'sort of' what you ordered.

I have a few of their blades and they are top notch equipment. The know nothing loud mouths in this forum mocking a Vet just shows their ignorance.

Wow! I LOVE tactical knives, and this site is why. I'm gonna buy the Leonida, at 700$, that's a steal for a knife that tactical. Thanks for the link, my only question is; why are they a .org?
You will be happy with your choice. I have a few of D's blades and being a Vet I got mine before a civilian. However he puts active personal first as it should be. You will fond the know nothing's mocking his business are just showing their ignorance. If they had issues with his work the Spec-Ops wouldn't be buying his blades to do the job of dispatching the enemy or EOD ops.

I IronTramp
Brother, this thread is four years old. The maker's website isn't even up anymore; at least I can't seem to access it.
He is going through a transition in his business after the divorice. He has also changed the name to Exos Tactical Concepts. I'll ask about his web page when I talk to him tomorrow.
