Eating or food prep with your edc?

I sliced up my under-cooked broccoli with my G&G Hawk S.T.U.D. II yesterday. :) I just wipe it down with a napkin afterward. :D

I have used my EDC to cut up food, but I don't use it for everyday eating as a matter of course. I've cut sandwiches, pickles, candy bars, meat of various sorts, and bread with everything from a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife to a Benchmade skinning knife and lots of stuff in between. i have kitchen knives for my normal cooking and eating, but I don't hesitate to use my pocket knives as improvised eating utensils if needed.

Usually, only at cook-outs, when the only options are those plastic knives and forks.

Exactly. When I see someone looking for a knife at a cook-out or pot-luck or similar I'm often reminded of that great line from Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a knife."

I'm known for having a good edge (or few) on me so people are no longer surprised when I pull out my Endura to cut something in our weekly pot-luck lunch. Some of the same people gathered for a different occasion last Sunday. Even though we were in a regular house with normal cutlery, the person cutting the roasted chicken couldn't find a blade that would cut it. We ended up washing my Endura for that task. It was already reasonably clean in my pocket, but it's nice to wash it again for those more germ conscious. :) I'll have to take my stones with me the next time I visit that house.

So far today, I've cut two tomatoes and some Swiss chard with my Spyderco Military. It's not my daily-dining knife but I have no qualms about using it on food items.

I used my tanker grey scrapivore to slice & dice a gigantic fuji apple for a snack in the office today; good times... Just wiped down the scrappy with a napkin after. I'm not obsessive about sterilizing my blade before food prep.

If we go to a friends house for dinner...I bring my gyuto, petty, pairing knife and ceramic rod in a small knife case...just in case they need some help in the kitchen. I am one of those obnoxious guests that always has their kitchen knives in the car. lol.

Picture the scene:

Barbeque on the beach with colleagues and their families. Plastic cutlery...

27 frowning faces trying to cut their meat into bite-sized chunks.

2 smiling faces happily munching away steak, pork, and saucages. I used my Opinel #8, one of my colleagues had a traditional Sardinian "Patada".

That's why I carry an Opinel... to eat with when the provided cutlery is unsatisfactory.

Kind regards,

Jos

My work knife I use around landfill gas, so uh no, I don't use for food prep :barf:

Now my around the house and around town knife I'll use on food, no reservations atall :D

I use mine to cut food at work occasionally and I usually just run it under the faucet in the bathroom and wipe it off with a paper towel. I might be a bit different than most in that I have separate EDC knives for the office than I do at home/farm. I was sharpening the pair of knives I keep in my farm pants last night. One was caked with some sort of unknown vaguely organic residue and one was covered in sap from where I had hacked down some weeds, so I'm not as diligent with those knives as I am with my office blades.

i'll wipe before i use it for food, then wipe/wash afterward. I carry a couple of knives so one is usually clean.

Erm..I hope you are talking about wiping your knife. If not, I hope you wash your hands as well :P

Venison & rice & beans. Yummy.
I do & usually get weird looks from the wife. Not all the time though.

about 2 years ago i did some traveling, finding places to live on craigslist and such. through this my main edc was my benchmade mini dejavoo. i used it for food prep all the time. i couldnt tell you how many chickens and bagels i cut up with that thing.

Sure I'll use my edc for food prep. I'll carry either a 2 bladed slip joint or 2 knives.

whether it's for an apple at work or a baked potato with chili at wendys, every time a sharp knife is needed, i use it.

I use my edc for food prep no worries
I use it to skin , clean , part up , cook and eat with , as well as whatever else I have to do .
I do wash it tho .
Hi carbon all the way :) I had enough chipped out edges and snapped tips to last me a long long time to come with stainless .

Just used my Shallot to slice up a tomato from my garden to add to my panini, then to cut the panini in half before eating. Good stuff.
Now I'll give it a quick once-over with dish soap and warm water.

The plastic knives at work would never fly.

i forgot to mention, my wife uses my knife for food prep all the time. only one, though, MY JUNGLAS. seriously, i come home to find her using my Junglas to chop up chicken. she says it's perfect for it. unless i plan on heading into the woods, i now leave my Junglas at home, when i go out just so she can use it :)

I gutted some fish in our kitchen sink recently and then threw my Pacific Salt into the dishwasher with some other gut covered items, it came out squeeky clean.
