EDC Advice Requested

As far as the pocket wrecking qualities of waved Emersons , I have a number of pairs of Carharrts that give mute testimony . Those are pretty tuff pants ! The combination of thumb disk/ wave is pretty devastating . Waved Spyders are less agressive . All the options you have under consideration are nice , YMMV!

Thanks again, everybody.

It seems that great minds think alike, and I am back to my original choice, the BM 530.

I would not recommend a folder. Prone to failures to open, failures to lock open and they really do not sport a good protection for fingers.

What I would recommend is a small fixed blade with a 3 - 4 in blade, carambit or tanto tip, a fingerguard of some sort so that you won't end up cutting yourself and a kydex sheath with several rigging options.

Of course having said all this, a knife is extremely poor choice for self defense for a lot of reasons but you might already know this and know how to use a knife in such situation.

You can get two Kershaw Blurs for $100 if you shop around!

I have a lot of nice high end knives, but I don't worry about abusing my Kershaw. It holds a very sharp edge and is not to hard to keep sharp. The grips have a skateboard type inlay and it open very quick!

I would also look at throwing in a small tactical lite , lite is very usefull , plus some make an effective , and justifiable pocket stick .

Read this: http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/knifelies.html

Make sure you at least get a good "real-world" book on knife defense/offense.

Also wouldn't hurt to get a good book on street self-defense tactics.

ummmm that web site is for a defeatist mentality............

guess you have never heard of the 21 foot rule in law enforcment circles eh?

places like that are the same type that tell you , oh you shouldnt carry a gun because it will be turned against you.

or things like oh if he starts to rape you just give in to him etc etc. then start the legal process..........lol

and yes i carry a glock 19 and a knife,...........and yes the knife can be quite a nasty surprize in the right circumstances...................

its all about the mindset and the will to survive, and to do whatever it takes to get there, why would you limit your options if you didnt have too?

Don't limit your options is very true. Totally forgot about the light - I have a Surefire G3 and they are great. Quite dazzling at 60 lumens, and, as I told my platoon leader, just another force option. The Streamlight TL3 puts out about 150 lumens and can literally stop people at night according to users.

Blinding the eyes can be accomplished with range out of contact. The 21 foot "rule" is central to understanding modern combatives and your alternatives.

I'de look at the Spyderco Yojimbo and Spyderco Tasman Salt if you are interested in defensive properties. If you are interested in pure defense, the Civilian/Matriarch is hard to beat.

I also have a SureFire G2. Amazing flashlight, much brighter than the large sized Maglite. I know from the split second it shined in my eyes that it'll totally screw your vision up.

Only problem is mine stopped working last night after just having worked the previous night. The batteries register at 2.73v so I don't know what happened. Seems like the lamp died prematurely but I won't get into it in this thread.
