EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Very nice! Who makes this?
Worksharp. It has the best factory edge I’ve ever seen and I own knives 4-5 times more expensive. It also has an integral magnesium alloy handle which is very interesting and different in my opinion. A lot of high end fishing reels are made with magnesium frames. Anyway, probably more info than you wanted….good luck finding one!

A Wedding Knife Story

I know that @waynorth @Rufus1949 @Jack Black @SteveC @jmh33 @The Fort @Sharp & Fiery @Horsewright and especially @lambertiana will enjoy this story. And I bet the rest of y’all will as well:

My older daughter got married last weekend. It was an absolutely beautiful family event in Jupiter FL. At a brunch he hosted on the morning of the wedding, View attachment 2915285
my new son in law (bottom right in photo) gave me a CRK Magnacut Mnandi with Macassar Ebony covers as a surprise thank you gift.

What made it fun is this was a groomsmen’s brunch, and along with the gift he gave me he also gave an eloquent toast celebrating all of us, in the order in which we came into his life. Nice touch I plan to incorporate into future gatherings.

All his groomsmen are impressive young men, smart lads. About half are guys he met in university at Penn, the other half from high school or even earlier in his life.

Here’s the sweet Mnandi: View attachment 2915290View attachment 2915291View attachment 2915292
My first time to hold one, or even see one in real life. As a Spyderco fan, I love the thumb hole. I know there is some disagreement about this iteration. Whatever. This is objectively one hell of a nice pocketknife.

What made this moment extra fun embedded inside a truly magical weekend — and my point in sharing this story here — is that as I passed the knife around the table for the guys to admire, I could tell right away: not one of them is a knife guy. They were all kinds of curious about why he gave me a knife, what kind of knife this is, how does it open, etc. Not a single one of them carries or were brought up with knives in their pockets.

So I start to tell them about CRK and why I carry in general, but he cuts me off politely. Then he proudly tells his best friends, with his dad there, too, that I gave him a knife as a gift two Christmases ago.Because I’m an Eagle Scout, and I grew up carrying a knife like my dad and grandfathers. He tells them I taught him that a man (and a woman, as I taught both my girls) should always carry a good knife wherever he goes. 😭

Later in the afternoon as we are getting ready for wedding pictures early at the venue, tying our bowties (I had to help 3 of them and the groom tie their ties) and adjusting our suits, a number of them came up to me and asked me to help cut the pockets open on their tuxes so they could put in pocket squares, or cut tags off of ties, suspenders, etc. It was a real life teachable moment for them from the new dad in law. Rule #9 in action.🤵🏻‍♂️😂🗡️

Then we all lined up and got the newlyweds properly married and celebrated: View attachment 2915293

Flash to hours later at the 1AM afterparty. A good number of the boys and even one of the girlfriends made a point to come up and thank me for the weekend, congratulate me on my father of the bride toast…and, tell me they are going to get a good knife to carry. Two guys even asked if they could follow up with me for advice on what knives to start out with. 🥹

I did warn them about that it is a dangerously addictive hobby. And to always doublecheck their bags and pockets before going to the airport!

This was my wedding day carry, btw:View attachment 2915296
DaveHS DaveHS your story was the best part of my day. And, I had a pretty good day.

For my money the Leek is a timeless, utilitarian design and a killer deal for a USA-made . . .knife.
You said it !
I have been on a major Leek buying spree lately .
I've been trying to figure out how to post my adventure here without asking people to visualize too much . Limited photo posting right now .
Spoiler : how I took the gold plated Leek to a whole new level . . .

Our bathroom project took a couple more steps forward today as the plumber showed up with the new sink faucet, replacing the 45 year old shutoffs along the way. I got the window sash and liners re-installed putting in the new stops, top parting/weather strip, and sash lock, cleaning all the glass--triple track sash and screen too, while wiping down and lubing the tracks and catches.

I made it a Ti Tuesday carrying my other PM2.

OK here goes NOTHING :
I have been on a major Leek buying spree lately .
I've been trying to figure out how to post my adventure here without asking people to visualize too much . Limited photo posting right now .
Spoiler : how I took the gold plated Leek to a whole new level . . .

Let me set the stage :
I've always been fascinated with my reaction to a beautiful blond woman in a sharp / tasteful / well-tailored GRAY jacket and skirt . Looks so good !
then
My coworker (and I ) are into Titaniuum and he has taken to swapping out gray Ti parts on his Litespeed super high end road race bicycle with gold anodized parts ; like bolts and even the bladed spokes . Some of them he has anodized himself . So cool . Some how we came up with the name Goldie for it and it stuck . I had an aunt Goldie way back in the day .

so . . .
I had decided to add a gold plated Leek # 1660G to my fairly embrassingly large Leek collection . One of the managers where we work ; I saw a pocket clip on her pocket and asked what she was carryng and turned out to be the full gold plated Leek . Now a year later I started thinking I should get one . . .

About the same time the Titanium handled Leek with 20 CV blade comes out and of course I HAVE TO HAVE THAT ONE AND DO HAVE IT NOW .

There was some nonsense in the reviews of the 1660G gold plated one that it was no longer polished but matt . . .
looked kind of aneamic . I started wondering what I could do with that if that was what arrived rather than the polished one and I start envisioning putting the gold blade in the Ti handle . . .

So . . . I gets the Ti / 20 CV
I gets the POLISHED gold one . . .
I can't stop thinking about the gold blade in the Ti handle and so I tried it . LOVE IT !
It really takes the gaudy down a notch and ups the sophisticated look (like the blond person in the nice gray suit) .
Now I have the empty polished gold handle . . . I take the black DLC blade out of a Carbon Fiber Leek that I have and put it in the gold handle . Not saying it isn't gaudy but I LIKE IT A LOT !

Now I have the Carbon Fiber Leek handle with no blade BUT I have the 20CV blade laying around . . . hmmmmmmmm
Turns out that is a combo made in HEAVEN ! High tech Carbon Fiber handle (thicker than all the other Leek handles too !) with the way up scale 20CV reverse tanto blade ! ! ! !
SOOOOOO SWEEEEET !
(((( I'm having a great time with my Leeks ! ))))

But . . . like a true knife geek . . . I STILL WANT AN ALL POLISHED GOLD LEEK . . . so that is now in the mail .
sigh 😞

Here are some images ; try to mix and match as best you can . Or better yet get a Ti Leek and put a gold blade in it . I don't think you will be disappointed !
