As many (all?) of you, I've been EDCing a knife for a while.
What do you guys do when going to a place where there is a patdown? (night clubs and bars mostly).
Do you not carry any knives that night? leave it in your car? hide it in your girlfriends purse?

While I know that I can explain why I carry a knife, I probably wont gain entry to any place where they perform a patdown.

I'm still new to this forum, I hope I put this in the right place.

i leave it in the car.

but then again i rarely go to places that require pat downs.

my neighborhood pub is full of old timers and i've walked in with a pocket knife clipped to my pocket and havent had any trouble at all.

If I go to a place that requires a PAT DOWN, I turn around and leave. I don't sacrifice any of my freedoms for the elusion of safety by others.

Hey Mods, should this go in "Political threads"????

I went to a Saints game at the Superdome in New Orleans here a few weeks ago and they have a no knife policy and pat down. I clipped my knife in side of my underwear right on top of my junk. No body patted me there and I walked right on in. Went into the bath room and took it out and just put it in my pocket.

I went on a night cruise for a bachelor party this summer. I didn't realize that there was a no "weapon" policy and that they would be performing patdowns. I didn't have my car with me, and no way in hell was I surrendering my small sebenza. So I just slipped the sebbie into my pocket and when they told me to take everything out, I just palmed it with my wallet.

I've also gotten into some nightclubs using my knife clip as a billfold and palming the knife. That will work even with metal detector wands as long as you act natural.

If a club or bar requires a pat down, it is not safe place to spend a night, choose other.

When it comes to sport events and concerts, I leave knives at home, because at my place it is illegal to carry any dangerous tool to mass event.

I've never been anywhere that required a patdown, however, local theaters are starting to search women's purses under the guise of checking for weapons. They're really just checking for people bringing in their own drinks or snacks.

They use to do it as far back as I remember, but a few of the people have actually been putting their hands in there and moving things around, which I think is about the line. They use to just take a quick glance into the bag for any obvious drinks/snacks.

I try to make every effort to determine if I will be searched before I get there. If I can't have a knife inside, I leave it at home or in the car. I never stash in a planter or try to sneak it in because even if that is a private establishment I might risk getting detained. If I feel the place inside is unsafe, I take my usual goto "non-weapons" like my milled steel pen, my cane or my leather bag of loose change.

I've never been to a place that uses physical patdown as their main detection method. This is likely do to it being a giant magnet for sexual harassment lawsuits (private businesses do not have the civil untouchability of the TSA) and the fact that metal detectors are much more likely to reveal guns and knives.

I just stick my boker subcom in my wallet with a lanyard almost sticking out. there are so many places to hide a knife during a patdown. unless their police then they shouldent search too hard.

I just don't bring it with me. I'm not goin to miss a hockey game because I need to have a blade on me. I can take care of myself without a knife.

I don't EDC for self defence, so if i'm going to the pub or to a club or whatever i just won't take it, because im not going to need it.

Pat down? Is this Russia? Lol - there are plenty of other places to go, I'd say. If they want to violate my 4th Amendment protections, they get none of my cash.

Idaho I think you hit on the head. Why would you want to go to a club or bar that requires a patdown? If a patdown is really needed Its not a club I would go to.

As for sporting events they can get out of hand, leave the knives at home. Ever go to a Islanders vs Rangers game? More fights in the stands than on the ice!

I got a knife through a pat down at a concert by sliping it into a cell phone pocket and hitting on the girl who pat me down she didn't seem to care much tho she just laughed and miss the cell pocket completly

I have no interest in going to or patronizing places that would infringe on my freedoms. Air travel is the only exception and I do so reluctantly.

YOU HOPE !!! If we actually knew when we were going to need it, we would all be wealthy people.

I don't carry when it is prohibited, but I also won't patronize places that do not allow it. Not because they violate me or my rights. Not because the place is somehow more "unsafe." I honestly have a million other things on my mind and cannot be bothered with remembering if I stashed all my knives in the car before entering. Also, I am less than comfortable with leaving my knives in my vehicle for any amount of time.

If I had no choice, I suppose I would take my chances. I carried into the Tower of London in '02 on a trip. Luckily, my dumb hick 'Merican routine worked. The security folks took it and told me to retrieve it when I left. They even went through the trouble of telling me my lock back was illegal...I had no idea.

I just leave mine in the car. I don't go to bars any more. No one pats down at regular dinner restaraunts, and I try to stay free of trouble so I don't have to go into court rooms.
