Every Day Manly Pack Carry

I've been carrying one of these for the last couple of year. Stores lots of gear, I carry it into an office (television studio) environment with no strange looks, and it doesn't look too mil-surp. The lumbar strap tuck back into a hidden sleeve leaning only the hand grips or shoulder straps.

I am thinking of checking out a County Comm Bug Out Bag. We'll see...

I have been wanting one of these for the same thing. Even though they are military they are not too tactical IMO. Chris

Those Swiss packs look excellent and not a hint of Miss about them! Could be a bit big though..I'm a fan of that old school European rucksack look, would be nice to get some smaller models and new though. Those Duluth bags didn't grab me much, "it have a lot of women and thems" not a lot different from that pink posting frankly! Still, chacun a son gout hein? :D

While we're on the subject, what do the black powder shooters among you recommend for a possibles bag? I'm just beginning to gear up for that kind of shooting, having figured that it'd be neat to develop skills with a gun that I would stand a chance of being able to maintain without a lot of technological support. I'm figuring that by the time I get something large enough for bullets, a mold and small ladle, flints, possibly small pliers for flint-knapping, patch material, grease, maybe firemaking kit, I may be happier with one of the larger-sized possibles bags, as opposed to the smaller. Anyone's thoughts on this? Also, I'd be interested in anyone's input as to materials--I see a lot of these inexpensively in suede, more expensively in full-grain leather, and some that are apparently made in full-grain leather but with the suede-like flesh side out, for some reason. What's good? Bad?

Mention of the similarity of packs of this kind to purses brought this to mind--I've looked with a little amusement at some of my wife's purses, and noted how close they are to some of the possibles bags out there.

Marmot and Mountainsmith make convertible shoulder/lumbar packs like the LL Bean models. I see them around Seattle all the time.

I picked this "sling" style backpack up from Oakley. It is their AP Sandbag backpack. Only one strap though. Priced at 110$. It is durable with lots of pockets. Also has daisy chain webbing for attaching accessories, tools, caribiners, etc. It is tough as nails. You can see one at the oakley website
www.oakley.com
(oh, if I ever become a dad, this would be the coolest diaper bag around)

I also carry an oakley sandbag. It is great and very durble. The ability to attach other pouches is one of my favorite features.

Shooters' range bags (preferably with prominent ammunition-manufacturers' logos) do this job nicely. Really sturdy, as they're designed to haul lead and steel. And NOBODY is going to mistake it for some kind of purse :D !

Maxpedition "Devil Dog"

I just picked up one of these on clearance at LA Police Gear for $50. I've wanted one for a while now, but wasn't too keen on the almost $90 price tag. Although maybe a tad bit "tactical", it offers the versatility of being used as either a waist pack or a "man purse". Generous amount of room and internal organization. I'm liking it so far. Don't think you'll find a more robust and durable product out there....except maybe something from Kifaru.

I have the one that minuteman referenced...even in the same color. It holds a bunch of stuff comfortably. It is a little "military" looking though. I really like the stuff on the red ox site. FWIW I have several pouches stuck on mine using the webbing so it is expandable to some extent. Only bad thing is it turns into a pita when carried for more than a mile or so of walking when you have a water bottle in it since it causes it to become unbalanced and want to slip around to an uncomfortable position.

I carry a Kelty Redwing 3200. Looks innocent, has a ton of cargo room, doesn't scream military. It's filled with survival gear, the spare fixed blade and folder, gerber hatchet, wind up cell phone charger, extra surefire and batteries, a pair of Nalgene bottles, first aid, 550 cord, etc. Sometimes a spare blaster or mags, plus all my catalogs and order stuff to do business from the truck. Best day pack pack I've found so far.
