It finally hit me how funny it is to see me post an expensive Curtiss Custom Knife between my new Spyderco production Ikuchiand my new Civivi knives post. I really do just enjoy all knives, cheap or custom, folding or fixed.
The more I play with this Curtiss, the more impressed I am with it. I have coveted and checked out this knife 3-4x at the local knife shop (an hour away) since early summer 2022, and kept being drawn to it every time I bought another CRK from them. I kept thinking I can have 2-3 CRK for the cost of this one. But this knife is truly unique, and no other will be exactly the same.
Next of new ones this week is a Curtiss Custom Knives Cruze Flipper in Damasteel and Carbon Fiber. Ti frame and stainless steel hardware.

It finally hit me just how funny/strange it is to see me post an expensive Curtiss Custom Knife in here yesterday between my new Spyderco production Ikuchi and my new set of $30 Civivi knives. I really do just enjoy all knives, cheap or custom, folding or fixed.
But the more I play with this Curtiss, the more impressed I am with it. I had coveted and checked out this knife 3-4x at the local knife shop (an hour away) for quite some time, and kept being drawn to it every time I bought another CRK from them. I kept thinking I can have 2-3 CRK for the cost of this one. But this knife is truly unique with it's individual raindrop Damasteel, and no other will be exactly the same - I just didn't want anyone else to buy it. The pics in dim light here lose some resolution and refinement over IRL.
The Cruze is one of the the few knives that has made me start thinking about all the crap that I keep in my pockets that can damage my knives, while also making me ask myself what can I remove to have at least one empty pocket that would make it safe to carry with me. Usually everything else takes precedence to stay in my pocket for EDC and protect me from FOMO and anxiety over not being prepared.
The knives that I often pick are such that they will not be a problem if they rub on my pocketed .357 or iPhone, or dent my ammo reloads or AirPods, or scratch my flashlight and pen, etc... Others like this include my ebony and Magnacut CRK Sebenza 31, or Spartan SHF Babe folder, Hawk Deadlock - ones where I would sacrifice my normal EDC things to be able to carry them and keep them pristine at the same time. I realized that one of the reasons why I have so many duplicate knives in my collection is so that I can have a user, but also have a spare safe queen in case my user gets all messed up.
The others I carry the most are ones that can be more easily replaced and aren't unique or too costly (under $500), but for those I definitely have spares, even if I can move them to my jacket, a table, or car center console if they need to be kept safe and a pocket wont work. When I lost 50 lbs I went to wearing slimmer looking Khaki pants from Duluth Trading, with fewer pockets than my baggy and comfortable cargo pants; and now I often want to go back to cargo pants that look more shabby, just so that I can have one pocket solely dedicated to a high-end knife like this one.
It was like having a knife epiphany - Some would call this an existential crisis, while others deem it a 1st world problem

I'd call it blessed.
