For the price, I vote VG10. I have not used there 3g much, but doesn't seem like it is worth the extra cost. (in my opinion.)

old thread but...the VG10 FKs are very good. The 3G ones are very very good. I notice a considerable
increase in edge retention with the SG2/R2 core over the VG10 core.

interesting to note, plain & (low cost these days) s30v has 4% van. vs 2% in 3g(sg2)

s30v should be quite a step up edge retention wise

...& s35vn has 3% van. and less carbon - tougher overall and imho I like it more of this group, despite being in nearly everything these days

I like VG-10. Yeah, it can be tedious. But if you can put a perfect finish on VG-10, you can start advertising as an "expert."
