I have had an A1 for awhile and I really like it, but wanted something smaller. After looking around I bought an F1. When it arrived I noticed that it is MUCH sharper than my A1 ever was. I tried to get my A1 that sharp using the mousemat/sandpaper and I noticed something. I colored the blade with a sharpie to make sure that I was hitting the edge when the blade is laid flat on the paper. Not even close. It seems that the angle is much steeper than the F1. Should it be this way? I read that the blade should be flat when sharpening a convex this way. I really want to get this blade sharp without ruining the convex.

Thank you

The A1 is a sabre grind (grind goes up to mid height) while the F1 is full grind to the top, which is why the angle is steeper. Also, if it's a thicker blade that'll compound the difference.
