Favorite Catfish Bait?

For channels, several thngs..Livers,nightcrawlers,cut bait, shrimp, catalpa worms...For Blues, cut bait..For Flatheads, big live bait..

I like beef liver, holds up a littler better than chicken. Put it in a ziploc bag in the sun for a day and then it is ready to use.

Chicken breast marinated in WD40..... Don't laugh 'till you've tried it... Works like Gangbusters in Santee-Cooper SC ...!!

wow I have to try this!

I've always used chicken liver. I tie it up in little balls in cheesecloth or hose, stick it on the hook and freeze it. Jaws couldn't that bait off.

live bream, crappie or goldfish. hands down. you catch fewer but the quality is usually far better than livers. i cant stand catching mud cats (bullheads). they rarely get over 3-5lbs . gimme blues and channels

heh, I'm the type to pocket cig butts and never leave anything on the trail, but this did not cross my mind even though it's obvious.

I love catfish. Surprised this hasn't been mentioned. I go to the feed store and get a bag of milo (any seed or grain, corn as well), put it in a 5 gallon bucket, add water to the top of the grain, lay the lid on the bucket but don't seal it, and let it ferment. It will smell completely terrible, and if it gets on you don't go into public places. Throw this stuff out in the area you want to fish. It will bring fish in from everywhere. Liver and worms on a hook and have fun.

Anchovies or sardines, especially when they've been defrosted and sitting in the sun for hours.

here is my issue with nasty chicken livers. i catch nothing but bullheads on it. i mean there is nothing wrong with that but for some odd reason the lakes we fish are loaded with bullheads. they were there when the lake was a river or creek. so i had to stop using livers if i wanted to catch channels... so we go live. you catch less but the quality goes way up. i mean way up. if i had to choose a liver it would be beef liver. not as nasty and stays on the hook much much much much better. i catch as many with beef than i do chicken..

My hand works pretty good......

we r talking catfeeshin'! LOL yeah yeah i know what you meant. i wont stick my hand in a hole i cant see in. turtles get quite large around here and i love my hand too much to risk pulling out 2 of 5 fingers

"turdels n catfeesh don' live in da same holes" is what I was told a while ago...lol

My favorite by far is beef cubes (beef chop suey) marinated in garlic powder and left to ferment as long as you can stand. Best thing is, a $4 portion lasts me the whole summer. Them things just don't come off the hook! I've caught about 5 catfish on the same beef cube before being forced to reload. The bigger cubes are trouble for bull heads and for whatever reason the carp don't even give them a second look.
