A recent Endura thread got me thinking. Most "best knife for around" $XXX threads cover too broad a price range. The endura thread convinced me it probably offers the most bang for $50.

Here is my question, what knife do you think is "best" all around in each of the following price ranges?

$ 0 to $20 (Opinel or SAK)
$20 to $40 (Buck 110)
$40 to $60 (Endura)
$60 to $80 (Griptilian)
$80 to $100 (Military, BM710 or BM806D2)
and so on . . .

I thought about using $10 ranges, but I can almost always find a knife $10, $20 or more under MSRP by shopping around online.

$ 0 to $20 Kershaw Vapor
$20 to $40 Buck 110, S&W FL2
$40 to $60 Endura
$60 to $80 Gerber Applegate/Fairbairn Covert
$80 to $100 Spyderco Police, Emerson CQC7

$0-$20 I don't have alot, but I guess the small SAKs are pretty nice.
$20-$40 Definetely something from Buck in 420HC (in my case, I like their slipjoints, but the 110 is very nice also)
$40-$60 Several, Spyderco Native, Outdoor Edge Magna, and some of CRKT's more affordable offerings (VERY pleased with my Commander Series Blitz)
$60-$80 BK&T Combat/Utilities (BK7, BK9, BK10)
$80-$100 Benchmade baby, BM 42/43 Balisongs, 805 TSEK AXIS.
$100-$120 Higher end Spydercos (Military, Chinook, etc.) and some more Benchmade goodness
$120-$140 Camillus CUDA MAXX 5.5
$140-$160 by the time you reach this price range, stop wasting time with factory knives and start shopping customs.

RH,

by the wayside, the SRK (Search & Rescue Knife) is a model of Cold Steel fixed blade. Basically the Cold Steel equivalent of a Becker Combat/Utility 7 (ironic, since they're both actually made by Camillus).

$ 0 to $20 - Moras, Opinels & SAKs
$20 to $40 - Camillus USMC, scandinavian knives
$40 to $60 - Becker
$60 to $80 - Greco folders (but not anymore :()
$80 to $100 - Don't know
$100 to $150 - Swamp Rat :D

Not quite in your paramaters, but here are some of my recent best buys...
$10 gerber urban companion
$20 spyderco navigator, kershaw vapor II, ka bar/dozier folding hunter
$25 several gerber gators
$35 camillus cuda edc, gerber guardian backup
$40 buck nighthawk
$45 becker cu7, ontario camp tool
$55 becker combat bowie
$60 benchmade griptilian
$65 gerber yari
$70 gerber spectre
I'm well pleased with all of them, and have these forums to thank for keeping me headed in the right direction, toward 200 knives. One day, when I grow up, I'll get some of these really fine knives y'all talk about. My wife thinks knives are cheaper than guns:rolleyes: Not!
