Do you have a places that have special meaning to you? I took these photos yesterday. I flew to a very remote Yupik village in far western Alaska. I have traveled there yearly for over twenty years to buy material for my sculpture and fossils to restore.
Of over 240 villages in Alaska this small community is considered the most traditional. They have not lost their language and they gather over 80% of their food.
One of my dearest friends lives there. He is my age (56) and has a large family as I do. He has got me beat with 18 grandchildren to my 13.
The temp was -5 but it seemed much colder with the wind. People were out and about on snow machines gathering wood and hunting. The second photo taken from the air is of one of five herds of musk oxen we saw flying over the island.
