FedEx does not ship knives from the US to many other countries anymore!

It's entirely possible that Singapore is more focused on contraband drugs, cigarettes and vaping. There actually has been a slight rise in knife crime but mostly kitchen knives, and fortunately the government is generally sensible here.
I just picked up an Ocaso Solstice folder: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/ocaso-solstice-andrew-demko-in-a-suit.2048797/
Singapore outlawed the private possession of even low-velocity air rifles
A Daisy "Red Ryder" BB gun, which many generations of America's youth grew up with, looks to be a jail sentence and a vicious caning for possession in Singapore. Good luck with their laws! Only their military and police are allowed to be armed. As a civilian, you are expected to be unarmed and defenseless. Unless you want jail and cane strokes.

Hard to believe these draconian law in some states and countries. So many denied the right to own many cool blades. Didn't Australia just ban Machetes because of one idiot. Surprised they don't ban screwdrivers.
You….shhh. 🤣😂 Don’t give them any ideas.

Fedex won’t ship knives of any type in Canada as well. I was denied shipping a slipjoint to Hawaii.

Sorry to hear about your slipjoint. Bet half of these crap states or countries let one buy a knife of some sort but don't allow shipment of one. It would make me want an illegal knife all the MORE! In my crap state I can buy an auto knife or pot but menthol cigs are a no-no!

Ya. Menthols are banned here.

Our issue is that it’s ONLY Fedex that won’t ship knives. So I don’t use them…and I let them know why. So ya.

Doesn't surprise me one iota
There is a reason why our founding fathers wrote our Constitution, with all of its Amendments, including the Second Amendment. Those dudes were wise, indeed!

Sending anything abroad has become unbelieveably bureucratic (and also expensive) if you don't have some kind of shipping service behind your back. I tried to send a knife to USA as gift and I just had to give up because I could not figure out the tax/tariff whatevever code that is required. This in 2025. It feels like things are becoming backwards these days.

I do not know the laws in Canada, but we have a much-abused "civil tort" system here in the United States. We also have attorneys who operate on a "contingency" basis, typically taking 30 percent or more of a money judgment in lieu of billable hours and cash retainers. It has proved very lucrative indeed. In just one of many examples, attorney Geoffrey Fieger, the older brother of The Knack singer/guitarist Doug Fieger ("My Sharona"; remember him?) sued WalMart and Mossberg after the murder of a gay man who was a guest on a reality TV show. WalMart was accused of selling the Mossberg 12 gauge pump-action shotgun to a deranged man, even though the sale was investigated and found to be legal under both state and federal laws. The legal teams of other cutlery and firearms retailers took note. The result: an overabundance of caution. Many would rather lose the sale and it's associated revenue than get sued for millions of dollars. United States courts are being used to redistribute wealth; it has been that way for quite some time now.

You can't have a machete? That's one of the most aggressive continents in the world to live on isn't it? I'm honestly surprised the machetes lost the fight to those politicians. They must be tough.

I was in the US in March and was shocked how much advertising there is for lawsuits. Got food poisoning in the pub, Call Bob, my better half joked when we were eating in a sports restaurant in Washington after seeing one gigantic billboard after another with texts along those lines. Everywhere it seems there are these billboards for law firms with texts like this: Got injured at work? Call us; we get the most out of your case.

Then you think, Let's watch some TV before bedtime, and the same crap is on there. Plus you get a medical class on every disease out there. Take this pill for hemorrhoids (I don't need them, luckily, lol). But if I did, the long list of horrible potential side effects that gets mentioned on TV nonstop every commercial break would have me shopping for a nice soft pillow to sit on, haha. I did not know that the human body can have so many diseases untill my trip to the US. I LOVE the US, but that is one of the things as a European you have to get used to.
A little off-topic, sorry :D

I do hate being advertised to as well. I'll concede Europe has us beat on that. They don't let pharma shovel out weird ssri commercials to the masses. People are so quick to take the shit too. Blows my mind.

This seems related, from the other direction:

Postal services in Europe suspend parcel shipments to US amid uncertainty over tariffs

Not related. The US imposed tariffs on all shipping, no mater the value, however there is no mechanism to receive and process those tariffs. Since the other carries have no way to pay, they must suspend shipments.

Impose tariffs with no mechanism to enforce?
Doesn't seem too well thought out.
The "de miinimis" exemption for less than 800$ has also been ended.

The di minimus exemption ending is the cause for all of this. It was ended two year early and suddenly. Millions of package now require all the extra paperwork and fee collection that never needed it before. Neither side of the border has the mechanisms in place to deal with volume. Yeah, not well planned out.

It is also important to note that FedEx stores have different rules than FedEx. Many things are prohibited at the stores that are fine to ship via FedEx.

That sounds like a recipe for frustrated and unhappy customers. Kinda like going to a McDonald’s for Big Macs when you’re out of town only to have them say “we don’t serve those here”.

I see this as primarily a political issue , anti-weapon policies of governments , not FedEx per se .

If FedEx suddenly decides to not ship weapons / ammo to my state , that's different .

Just business for them . Why would they want to risk having their shipments refused / confiscated etc ?

Most FedEx store locations are privately owned and operated. They are not the same as FedEx. Just like FedEx Express are private drivers with “rented” routes.
The stores have to hold your shipments in their stores until they are transferred to Fed Ex custody. I’m sure the insurance coverage and protection is much different.
