Fiddleback User Weekend May 5-7, Hiawassee, GA - Schedule Posted

Justen, are we reserving spots yet?

And Odaon...just think about the abuse...uh...I meant camaraderie...that will take place around the campfire?

Your gonna hate yourself if you don't come and we start posting pics on here!!! Hahahahaha!

(Seriously, that's a damn expensive trip. Just messing with ya bud. But Abe, well Abe has no excuse now that he can't carry a blade. So what if it costs him a few thousand to make the trip! I doubt the magistrates down there are going to come looking for him over here when he misses his court date.)

Not too bad expense-wise actually assuming I was able to get a ride to and from an airport.

Speaking of which, if one were going to get picked up from an airport for an event like such, which airport would one fly into?

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun! Be sure to post a lot of pictures for those of us who can't make it!

I'm going to start a FAQ response back at the beginning of this thread to help out answering questions, which may help some in their decision making. Please PM me with any questions you may have. I'll add these last few, but to go ahead and answer them now:

1. Tony, slots are open and I just need a firm commitment you want to attend. I'll follow up next week on payment, waiver, etc. Spots will likely go fast once everyone has a chance to sort out their calendar, so even if you are tentative at this stage shoot me a pm.

2. Ance, yes, I'm maxing this out at 16 for a few reasons, all of which are to ensure the people who come get the most out of the training and everyone leaves knowing each others' first and last names.

3. Orion, Heartsfield Jackson is the airport and I plan on coordinating with some local folks to assist with transportation for those flying in. I just want to know how many will be flying in first. Don't worry, we'll get you there. And for those flying Delta I'll mail you a Crown Room pass for the ride.

Damn...it's times like these that I wish I did not live on a different continent.

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and put my name in the hat. This just sounds too cool to pass up and I think the timing is ideal for me. Hopefully

You all better fill those slots up, this would/will be a fun and memorable weekend.

I had April in my head for some reason. I'm trying to swing it, but doubtful. May is a tough month for me: wedding anniversary right at that weekend will most likely be the clincher plus my oldest turns 5 in May and we typically are in the Outerbanks for a week somewhere in there.

Southern Gent Outdoors will be hosting the first Use Your Fiddleback Weekend at the Southern Gent farm located in Hiawassee, GA.

The weekend will be packed with instruction, camaraderie and of course, plenty of Fiddleback use. Renowned instructors Kevin Estela and Brian Griffin will be sharing their vast knowledge in a hands on environment the like you will have never experienced and the Fiddleback crew will be there too. The cost per attendee will be $165 and with your contribution you will receive two days of instruction, meals, class materials and plenty of cold beer and cigars throughout the weekend. We’ll set up camp on site at the farm and tent for the weekend. A detailed suggested packing list will be provided.

Q: What exactly am I'm committing to do if I attend?
A: There will be lots of learning and practicing of the skills we want to use our knives and tools for everyday, but this will be the most relaxed setting you have ever done this in.

This sounds phenomenal-- thanks so much for putting this together.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: More on this to come, but you should need no more than your clothes, knives and tools of your choice that you want for the weekend and sleeping arrangements, i.e. tent, hammock, sleeping bag and pad...If you are not capable of bringing any of these items let me know ahead of time and I'll have you covered.

Clothes, too? ;)

I s'pose this as good a place as any to mention that I have not ever, how you say, "Camped."

True story.

This far in, one would be correct to infer that this has been, for the most part, intentional, but I must say y'all have me intrigued.

Sarah,

Cigars. If Justen and I are involved in any way, cigars are mandatory. If Bill shows up you'll find us sneaking off to smoke like teenage boys in the high school bathroom.

You do know you don't have to sneak, right? Or at least, that's one of my takeaways as Part of the Whole Point of the week end...?

Unless that somehow makes it more fun for you. :D

(Good luck finding a 'bathroom.')

Not committing 100% yet, but it's looking pretty likely that I'll be able to attend.

Assuming that's the case, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone else that's there. It'll be nice to share stories face to face and meet some of the people I consider friends on here.

Myself and the girlfriend would like to attend! This sounds like a great time. Will we be able to buy/sell/trade stuff?

This sounds like a real hoot Justen. Wish I could make it up for the event. I could even show you guys how to forge a short spear using a campfire, hammer, a rock and effect a credible heat treatment all in two beers time.
Let me know if you don't get a full roster, I might be able to adjust a few things.

You coming to Andy's on Sat (Guild meeting)?
