What does this group think of binocular/rangefinder combos? Specifically the Vortex Fury 5000? I know there are much more expensive sets out there. Really liking the idea of the combination in one system. I have used these before and they worked great (for me). Vortex additionally has them with advanced ballistics software (for an extra $500) that I don't know much about, so probably don't need...right? Interested to see if anyone has any additional feedback.

I sold my best rifle to buy some Leica Geovid HD-R’s and never regretted it.

Seem to be comparable in price? I don't know much about that brand. Wonder how they compare to Vortex? Appreciate the input!

I have the benefit of being neither American nor European so I’ve got no bias one way or another. In my experience I don’t think there is any comparison between high end Euro glass and vortex.
I’m not sure if they even make the HD-R anymore, I’ve had mine for probably 10 years or close to it.

I have to agree Vortex doesn't come close to Lecia quality or most of the higher tier brands for that matter.

Vortex may do everything you want/need it to, but in the tough situations especially low light or reduced visability the difference is very noticable.

Exactly, and if you’re chasing big bucks/bulls etc. low light is when you tend to find them, at least in my part of the world.

Both good feedback. Thank you!
If you are happy with optics you have, DO NOT look through top tier glass! It will ruin you.

The first time I looked through Leica Bino’s was on a boat glassing for bears. The Captain told me to use his after I was late seeing some bears. OMG it was incredible. What I previously thought was good was simply adequate.

I can relate to this.....one time (on an oil rig of all places) I "A" & "B"" 'ed a cheap pair of binoculars vs. A pair of Swarovskis...... And yes, to confirm, I seen things that I wasn't supposed to see.......

Long story short, I've been ruined for awhile.....😒 But you all probably know that! 😆

P.s. Cabelas has 15% off of Vortex, so....... 😉

Ok. So now that the Vortex are secured! (😆)

Next up: does anyone have experience with Oakley boots? I made a snap decision and bought a pair of their "elite assault boots" for my Son and I for what I thought was a smoking deal ($50).

Any experience? Are they decent? Suck? A little "different" from my normal discretion, but thought for the price, what the hell. 😁

No experience w/ their boots but I’ll die wearing a pair of Oakley (USA made) shades. I’ve had less luck w/ Oakley prescription glasses.

The boots look light and well made. Perhaps, milspec quality ? Are they waterproof ? Do they have adequate tread or Vibram soles ?

Any more, I have to wear Crispi brand quality boots or my feet give up. However, as a younger lad, I remember tromping around in a lot of nasty shit wearing issued jungle boots or even Navy Boondockers (worst boot ever made). 😙

Ok, I realize I’m rambling. Just got home from work and gotta go back in a bit. Tired.

Yes the are very light! And they do have Vibram soles. I don't see them as super hard use. I figure to use them for some light hiking amd hunting (we don't have to walk very far). I'll report back if there is anything worth while. 🙂

Kind of a hunting report, more like a trapping one.
We have/had a groundhog problem but would notice they come and go.
I started seeing my neighbor occasionally walk out to the woods with a kitty litter tub and thought maybe he was taking out scraps from whatever he would smoke on his smoker because there would be foul odors when the wind was just right, but also wondered if he was getting rid of them or something else.
About a month ago had seen some more groundhogs and one day heard a crack. A little time later, there he goes with the tub again 🧐
Saw him and asked if he was taking care of them and he told me he was trapping them, got a license, tags etc.
I asked where he was trapping them and he said his garage 😮 and the digging had ruined the slab and couldn’t park anything in there due to it.
I ask how many and he said 7 last year and about 29 so far this year 😮😮😮😮

Crispi boots..... this is the way.

Got a pair on sale a while back and I love them. I probably won't go with anything else.
