fishing

Oh lets not forget that the fish is smarter then you might think.. Just wait when you spend the all day at it and there is not one fish to show for it... when you catch the make sure you eat the heads. You got to have the fish brain the only way to get smart enought to out smart the fish ........... Well atlist thats what i were told as a kid.

Hey Guys...

Would also have to agree on the Rapalas..Great lures..

Red..

Yaa thats really about the only knott you need...

RB..

Awesome picture..That's a Nice handful of Bluegill..

As far as other types of fishing,, one might also get a couple spools of some 50lb braided Dacron and build a dozen 10'-15' Trot lines...

These can produce alot of fish in a short period of time....

A interesting way to catch alot of bluegills in short order is to "roadkill chum" a pond...

Collect a couple road kills, or shoot a coon or two and stuff them down into a Onion bag..

Hang the onion bag over a pond or stream (works better in non moving water) and let nature work.. Maggots will soon infest the dead critters..Thy will feed, then fall off into the water where the fish will snatch them up nearly as soon as they hit the water...

You show up with a simple look wrapped in white string and a bucket to put fish in and you are in business...

I've caught gills using a piece of off white electrical insulation on a hook...It's taken the second it hits the water...

To catch grasshoppers in bulk, get a fuzzy blanket, lay it out in the long grass then start walking in a big circle hitting the grass with a stick...
The grasshopper land on the fuzzy blanket and get their legs trapped ,much like velcro..Pick them up and push them through a lid with an X cut into it so they can't get out...
These also make excellent bait in ponds or where fish are use to eating grasshoppers...

I have heard of this before but haven't tried it, I bet it would work great, however if I shoot a coon he gets baked with sweet taters. ;) Chris

Hey Normark thats a cool idea with the fuzzy blanket. I been catching them with my shirt just run around and when you see one hit it with the shirt and grab it fast.

Hey Guys...

RB....

Yaa it works well...

I use to have a recipe for chum balls that were the size of baseballs, formed by hand..You'd toss them out and they would dissolve in the water.. You simply just fish in the area of one of the balls....
An option for the recipe was to jam a couple Alka Seltzer tablets in there and they'd fizz as they fell apart...

Sasha...

Try that trick with grasshoppers it works well..
you can also pick up a cricket dispenser at the store...

You stuff them in the bottom, and it has a long cone shape at the top with a lid..The Hoppers or crickets crawl to the top, and all you do is grab them by the head and pull them out..The next cricket in line will crawl to the hole...Kind of like a cricket Pez depenser.. :)

I have used my fishing line and hook out of my survival knife with great results. Around the local mountains and lowlands there are little water crustaceans called perrywinkles that crawl on the bottom in shallow lakes and streams. You peel the gravel like shell off and most fish bite on them over any other bait.

On most mountain lakes the fish will always hang out near any streams draining into the lake. I do alot of flyfishing and that is where I always go first. We also have bullheads that will bite just a shiny hook dangled next to a rock. They are not my first choice of eating fish but there are lots of them and they bit anything and can be found in very shallow water.

I have heard of people eating opossums and ground hogs but never a coon. I thought most coon hunters fed it to the dogs.

I have eaten ground hogs and every coon I can catch but I will never eat a possum unless I am starving.

Raccoon is very good succulent meat that reminds me of pork, it is a little greasy but has a very good flavor, it ranks towards the top for game IMO. Chris

EDIT: The dog in the picture of the net is a Mountain cur, sired by Tree time Galloway's Burley and a hell of a tree dog.
That pic is in another thread here is another.

:D LOL!!! :D
I checked the image properties to see if it was a trick question. I hope "mominlawfish" means that your mother-in-law caught it. :p

We used to call them "Hackle Heads"
Don't know why :D Don't know the proper name.
I got one like that as big as my boot in the surf at Montauk last year...he hit a 2 oz white bucktail jig.
Go figure.

I was there when it was caught and someone said it was called a "mother -inlaw fish" so thats what I named the picture. It was caught on Apache Pier in North Myrtle Beach SC.

Fishing requires the following skills.

Being able to swear.

Being able to drink.

Being able to lie.

If your trying your best and you can't catch anything swearing can help. If it doesn't, start drinking. When you return home you can lie about why you didn't catch anything.

LMAO... :D
I find a good cigar is great for fishing.... gives me something to do if the fish aren't cooperating, and keeps the skeeters at bay....
I wish I could be Flip Pallot in the Walker Cay Chronicles.... ;)
nice "slab"-sized bluegill there runningboar ...
