Five knives for the rest of your life

Inspired by the Birdshot IV series of videos, I shall ask a question of this forum's members: if you could only own and use five folding knives for the rest of your life, what would they be?

I find this question more interesting than 'five favorites', because it encourages you to take more things into account; usability, versatility, variety, potential legal restrictions, et cetera.

To start it off, mine are the Buck Marksman, Spyderco Manix 2 LW, Lionsteel Roundhead, Bestech Sapphire, and Havalon Piranta.

That’s a tough one.

Based on what I currently own, I would say....

Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2
Spyderco Pacific Salt
Medford Praetorian
ESEE 6
Case Trapper or Manly Wasp in S90V

That could change daily!

Warranty work is another thing you have to take into account. 5 knives to last me 6+ decades? Man. Better have a good warranty / replacement service.

I started to write out a list, but it was pretty boring. Pretty much just a few common hits from Spyderco, Benchmade, and ZT. The required longevity means I’d need knives from companies who would be around for a long time -and- would likely still have parts and blades for the models I owned.

I could live with five knives. Needs change, so the rest of your life thing is tough. The problem with the list below is what I like now and not what I am slowly moving toward which tend to be smaller knives.

Right now.... This could change after I think about it a bit.....
  1. Victorinox Adventurer
  2. GEC Missouri Trapper #42 or Madison Barlow (2 blade)
  3. GEC #48 or 72/73 Trapper
  4. Spyderco Native 5
  5. Steel Will Mini Cutjack C22M
I edited the list because I missed the "folder" statement and included two fixed blades

Alox Cadet

Spyderco Endura, PM2 or Milli choose one, I feel these and many other Spydies are swappable. I love having variety but it doesn't mean that these are still no swappable options. These are also my favorites from Spyderco

CRK Mnandi for me it's really tough to kick out the Alox Cadet for it's sheer usefulness but when I do it's the mnandi I feel like I'm not classy enough to carry this knife lol

BM940 complete convert thanks to bikerector

Case mini wharncliffe trapper, probably my favorite pureplay user pocket knife bar none

Glad to see the case trapper in one format or another is killing it with forum members!

1. ZT 0452g10
2. ZT 0095ts
3. Cold Steel Recon 1
4. Spyderco Para 2
5. ZT 0400st
Id want a serrated knife, and a super tough knife, a couple weapons and somethin that could do it all (452).

Alox Farmer
ZT 0562cf
PM 2
ZT 0801cf
CKF Morff 5
Aside from the Farmer, all are similarly sized, but are in my comfort zone and require slightly different moods for me to pick up.

Pohl Force Alpha Four
Steel Will Gekko 1500
Steel Will Gekko 1550
Victonrinox Swiss Champ
Viper DAN 1

In a hypothetical world in which I don’t need spares, and never lose anything:

1. Victorinox Classic
2. Massdrop x Laconico Keen
3. Olamic Wayfarer 247
4. Real Steel Megalodon 2017
5. Kizer Gemini

In the real world, I’m neurotic about spares. I have two knives I’ve grabbed back ups for, if we count the Classic. The second is the Keen.

So...

1 & 2. Victorinox Classic
3-5. Massdrop x Laconico Keen

Come on you’re over thinking things. This is clearly a barely concealed, “what are your favourite knives,” thread.

No can do. Open up the challenge to five edged tools of any choice then that creates categories. Food prep, utility, woodcraft, bushwhacking, house building, etc.

The category is already stated in the opening post - folding knives. It doesn't suggest that we have to use those 5 folders for all of our knifely needs; so our variety of fixed blades isn't an issue.
