fixed blade for self defense

So I'm better off with a small blade then? Either way you lose. Regardless of what your opponent has, your going to be best off keeping distance with a longer blade and upping your chances by a one cut or thrust ending the encounter quickly as opposed to multiple cuts or thrusts with a small blade during a high panic situation. It's the best of a bad situation.

The element of surprise comes into play too, if you're opponent is determined no matter what you have, a small blade has an advantage. Your opponent won't sense a threat and in turn won't work as hard to take you down, making him more vulnerable. Pull a small blade and your opponent won't know what hit him. Even without training; especially without training, a smaller blade is always better.

Zero Tolerance 0150 double-edged boot knife with a 3.5" blade of S30V steel and weighing just 3.6 ounces without sheath (5 ounces with).

Someone whos entering a knife fight won't work as hard because you have a smaller blade as opposed to a large blade? I've not been in a knife fight before, but if I'm ever in such a terrible position, I can't possibly imagine not fighting with every essence of my being to live. Seriously doubt someone's going to "tone it down" in a fight for your life because the enemy's blade isn't big.

The best knife (fixed or folding) for self defense is the one you have on you.

Who said it was a knife fight in the first place? They never said it was knife on knife. When your opponent thinks you're vulnerable is when you have an advantage. In those cases you don't want your opponent to know you have a blade until its to late to react. Anything more than that and a blade won't do you any good if you're untrained. Big blades are clumsy and easily taken out of the hand.

Again......the question was best fixed blade for self defense. So if your in a situation where you have to defend yourself with a knife.......that's called a knife fight. No one said anything about knife on knife.

I'd choose my mod of a British M.O.D survival knife.

I'm curious about something. Why is it that EVERY TIME and I do mean every time (that I have read the thread at least) someone asks a question such as the OP. That guns and your martial arts training blah blah blah are always mentioned as the response or in the response. Like the poster has to preface his answer before he just answers the very simple question or many times they never actually answer the question but must espouse why they must have a firearm....must have training of some sorts <---to stab or slash with a knife of all things.....or here is the hilarious one IMO - - IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU. I guess that means they will never be accosted/mugged etc. etc. Check the statistics.

A 31yr. old woman and her 34 yr. old husband who lives within my view just maybe 4 or 5 months ago was confronted by two teens as they were doing their late evening walk. The husband was punched and knocked to the ground and pummeled. When the two teens were trying to get his wallet his wife pulled out *her* pocket knife and stabbed one of them and cut the arm of the other as the husband was trying to get up. He also had a pocket knife, he just didn't get to it quick enough before the first blow. As one of them yelled and they started to pull away the husband got a hold of his knife and the fellas fled.

Now, I don't know this couple. But I do know of them, I see them about everyday I'd imagine. A friendly wave/ smile etc. When I talked to them about this she said her and the husband had went over scenarios similar to this time and time again. It paid off IMO. My guess would be the guy will have his hand on his folder when he's approached the next time. No one was caught and there were no reports of anyone going to the hospital that they know of. Choice of knives? Husband had a CS Lawman and his wife had the Spyderco Yohimbe2.

In answer to the OP. Anything very pointed but not super thin. Extremely sharp. Make sure your piece makes air bleed and has a good choil and/or guard. Good luck on your choice.

No and hope I never have to but it's only common sense right? The bigger they are the harder they fall...

Hey we're trained, and swords are much longer than the knives suggested above. I think the only correct answer here is like stated above, one with a ten round magazine.

So going by your logic...

No and hope I never have to but it's only common sense right? The bigger they are the harder they fall...

This

Pretty sad when people feel compelled to provide an opinion on something they've never had any experience with.
