I’m much more of a folder guy. But lately I’ve been wanting a fixed blade. At the moment , I’m favoring the classic Buck 119 with S35VN and green micarta. I’d love to order a custom 119 from Buck but a lead time of 6-8 weeks ruins that notion.

So before I buy a 119 , what else is available that’s similar in size? It’ll be a daily/occasional carry for the winter along with a folder. Here are the specs I’m looking for :
- Stainless blade (semi-stainless like D2 or CruWear will work too).
- Full tang.
- Overall size 9”-11”.
- $400 price cap.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Lots of options at this size and price. Our makers on here could definitely make what you want in this range. The recommendations above are great as well. In addition to those I’m going to throw out some of my favorite makers. Some are production and some are harder to come by but I only recommend stuff that I have owned and used. But, Buck is also one of my favorites and I don’t think you can wrong with them.

Becker
Buck
ESEE
Hogue (very underrated)
Ka-bar
Knives by Nuge
LT Wright
Spartan
Tactical Pterodactyl
White River

For a true workhorse blade, you should consider the cold steel SRK. It won't impress blade snobs, but it IS strong enough to issued for Navy BUDS/Seal trainng.
The SRK is indeed a great design, as well as is the Master Hunter. With the OP mentioning the green micarta Buck, and $400 limit, I simply left off these obviously good choices. Different steel options, handle colors, and SRK in 2 lengths (for outstanding prices).

Of all knives i've had, these two are my favourite.

Trc South Pole - (on the right) mine is in magnacut which are limited but it is available in and also easier to track down in elmax. I hear their HT on elmax is really good. You'll come close to but under the $400 mark.
Carothers dek1 - though only available on secondary market

These are two beauties 👍

Thanks for all the suggestions. I knew you guys wouldn’t let me down. Looks like I have lots of knives to check out 😃

I was about to suggest these two as well. I have both and it would be difficult to choose between the two.

Also, I just received my TF24 from Montana Knife Company. It's slightly more than what you mentioned, but what a perfect edc knife. They're almost sold out. Only the black and tan is available so you would have to order soon

I have reread the OP and am still not sure what niche the looked for knife will fill. D\idn't read most of the later posts, so this may be redundant.

If you are looking for an heirloom keepsake th display to envious buddies and pass around at home, a Randall Made of about any model will do. Or . . .if you have just won the $1Bn lottery, look for an original Moran or Loveless.

If you want about the same admiration and envy, but want to use it in the field, then the options open up a bit. At price points similar to a Randall, a number of high end working knives are available from Chris Reeve Knives (CRK). I have bought and gifted CRK knives. They are always appreciated by the recipient and admired by their brothers=in-law. In 2004, I gave a Ka-Bar sized CRK "Green Beret" to a young Marine on his way to Iraq during the heavy fighting going on then. In the last twenty years or so, CRK has upgraded that model's blade steel as newer formulations became available. CRK has other fixed blades in other designs and sizes in modern high alloy steels. Any of them will be a premium quality user.

There asre other semi-production makers who turn out great knives. Someone here will list a few, I am sure.

If you want a less costly user that will get the job done, Cold Steel has a wide variety of ""Git-er-Dunn" Fixed b;ades.

Whatever . . .the first thing is to figure out just what you want the knife for.

That’s a sweet spot, both size and budget wise. There are hundreds of good knives within your specs, might want to think more about what kind of blade shape, guard, etc., first.

For example: do you like the guard on the 119 ? How about a Kephart ? Etc.

I were you, I’d try to get an AEB-L knife from one of our custom makers, for example Volunteer Knife Volunteer Knife .
