Fixed Blade Recommendations

Many great suggestions have been made and I am sure almost all will serve you well......however....

If you want to buy just one and you want the best...... get a CPK that meets your needs.

You may have to wait a little while until the right knife is offered by Nathan but that wait will be worth it.

Alternatively there is an active aftermarket for the knives and if you post on the CPK forum I am sure someone will have something approximating what you want.

Nathan knives are unmatched in manufacture and heat treatment. I would go for one of his CPM3V blades. They are essentially custom quality at factory prices.

Let us know what you choose.

Interesting testing method. I note he says the Magna Cut is about 1/3 more expensive than the AUS 10A. I just looked and I see the AUS10A version for $114, and the Magnacut version for $200, so quite a bit more than 1/3 price difference . I do not own either knife, so no dog in this fight, just saying. John
 
Robert Erickson Robert Erickson is one of the best "bang-for-your-buck" makers out there. His knives are a bargain in every sense. They are extremely well made and meticulously finished at prices well below what they easily could be. He offers a wide variety of the top steels and materials in the industry.

An addition, you would be supporting one of the best people that I have ever met.

Magnacut is almost impossible to get as well.

I have the Aus 10. Works fine.
 
An Erickson knife is still on my bucket list.

The other one of our makers that the OP might like is Steingass ?

With as much as you are willing go, please don't settle for anything that isn't Perfect for you...

Like everyone is saying, there are Many excellent makers Here would will give you Everything you want..... You shouldn't have to settle for a basic knife.....

No..... realistically I push people to Other makers.
Yes, I love making knives.
Yes, I do full customs (as long as it fits into my style).
Yes, I take orders..(maybe).... But.

I'm slow, very slow. I hang onto finished knives sometimes for a couple weeks.... because I Want to..... I am kinda old and cranky, making What I want, how I wanna make things.When I want to.

Someone (edit, Here) recently scolded me for making My nephew a hunting knife this last fall, saying I was skipping people out of turn. I thought that was odd/Funny...it was my family, I'll do what I want.

Yes, I'd be willing to talk to You/people, but realistically you won't get it in 2025, I've got too many people who want my work on "the list" in front of you. But if you don't care about time, and you're patient, Yes, please DM me....
