Florist, Pruning and Grafting Knives

Anyone have any thoughts on what Buck Knives was thinking when they put this #810 Knife out? Perhaps a pruning knife for Redwood Trees? Whatever the intended purpose, it is certainly an aggressive looking knife.

It's not a pruner, but a linoleum/carpet knife. Some knives that are called pruners by some are called linoleum/carpet knives by others. However, if it has a budding knife or second blade, it ain't a carpet/linoleum knife.

In addition, w/o a point, non-locking and an occupational purpose, these hawkbills are legal in many restrictive locations (such as big cities) and are ideal self defense knives. I got my pruner (Japanese Saber brand) from a NYC police officer who told me he took it off a [ethnic slur] who was about to use it in an altercation with another [ethnic slur]. He also said,, that since the knife was technically legal, hadn't yet been used to slice the other guy and most importantly it was the end of shift and he didn't want to do paperwork, he kept the knife and there was no arrest.

I've got this pruner. I picked it up from the middle of a gravel road outside of town on a Ranch/Farm called Lynetta Ranches/Farms where they grow rice, garlic, alfalfa, other various crops and run cattle too. I don't know how long it had been laying there but y'all can see it's pretty rough and I think I'm going to leave it this way. It probably fell off one of the employees trucks, tractors, or whatever. I've been told that Lynetta buys these things by the box full and hands them out to their guys/gals.

@lambertiana posted a couple/three pictures of this kind of knife and said they used it for pruning/harvesting grapes down around Tulare, CA .

I might sharpen it (or try to) but that's all I'll do with it.

Great knife, Lyle!! It looks like the mating of a Farmer's Jack and a Texas Jack!! Another guy (Bonfire Bob) I wish I had met before he went over to the other side!
Thanks for the nice comments Will, Paul, herder, Gev, Molokai, kai76, Jody, Ed, brownshoe, and all who are supporting Gev's great thread!!

More horticultural knives!
Happy Thursday to all those who Heart Horts!!:)
I am moving these all to a larger Cigar box as they turn up in my re-organization!
An interesting quartet: Top is a left-handed Hugo Koller (mitt umlaut) from Solingen. Note the folding spud. Ya gotta hand it to a company that makes a southpaw option on a nicely-made knife!
Second is a nicely aged I*XL.
Third is a modern-day A.Wright Peach Pruner with great Horn handles.
Last but not least, a Southern & Richardson B&G with an integral spud on the back of the main blade. Please enjoy!!B n G misc A.jpg
The ring is either Cerillos Turquoise, or Chrysocolla; the jury is still out. . . . . . .more to come.

The A.Wright Peach Pruner with great Horn handles is especially nice Charlie.

Each one has its own compelling beauty, Charlie !!! The Koller is smashing and the ring is outstanding !!! What a treat to view and study ! Thank you :D My heart horts now :):)

Glad you are enjoying them Ed and Gev!

Interesting Colonial, Jack - definitely related to Lyle's!!

I was thinking about the color of the Ivory Spud on the I*XL. I wonder if it has been "dyed" from the sap encountered as the bark is "teased" out to accept a bud?

Very well could be. One would think an aseptic hortman would diligently prevent such an occurrence.

Hmmmm . . . . .Ivory is mysterious stuff. Maybe it is dead bacterial cells that color it.
