Folding box cutter/utility knife.

I really like this stupid thing I got at Walmart. The blade swaps with a tool less lock back type button. It even has a fold over deep carry clip. Its not impressive, but overall i think it works great and a 3 pack was like $6.
Lifetime Warranty ;)

Yep. These are stupid cheap, but they work pretty well. The color will get chipped and faded, but they sure do the job

That's exactly what I'm carrying currently. Those things are great for what they are.

Get a Gerber EAB the normal one not the lite model pocket clip can be removed for better ergonomics. I've been using one as my construction blade for a couple of years indestructible dropped it from 4 th lvl of a scaffold onto pavement no issues with durability. Keep a couple spare blades on you.

If you're prepared to spend real money to get a knife lover's knife, consider Spectrum Energetics:

I own this, and I love it. It's very thin and light, feels great in the hand, and deploys/folds quickly and easily:

It also has what I consider a compelling advantage over every other utility knife I've seen: the length of exposed blade edge. With this tool, you get use of almost the entire blade edge, not just the tip. This makes the knife useful as an EDC folder, not just as a box cutter.

I had a Craftsman branded one just like that and my only dislike was that if the blade hit something binding it would pop the release spring and send the blade flying.

The market for folding boxcutters exploded in the last decade. And it was filled almost exclusively by gimmicky, bottom end vendors with fairly junky wares. Some may be useful. Some are really junk. What i think is funny is how many, despite being folding, seem to be as big or even bigger than old fashioned OTF retracting blade style boxcutters. Making one wonder why they bothered to make the design folding in the first place. To which I credit the never ending desire for gimmicks. Something we knife nuts know all too well.

Some designs are nice for their compactness, such as the Gerbers and those oval shaped ones that have turned up under various brand names. The ones like the Screwpop and some similar boutique designs (and their copies) all seem to suffer from poorly thought out details, such as letting the edge ride against the inside of the metal handles. In the end, I find it hard to really replace a regular retracting boxcutter. The classic Stanley and its copies really do the job well. I like the Stanley 10-016, a scaled down version of the classic Model 99 that uses the same blades and all. If they managed to put a pocket clip on one, and actually distribute them, I think it would be better user than just about any folding boxcutter on the market.

I haven't used a better utility knife than a standard issue Stanley 99E. In order for me to sway it would really have to have some intriguing options. I'm considering one of the turboknife options.

Do you guys know folding utility knives which do not exhibit any wobble/play/rattle/wiggle/waggle/shake anywhere (joints, and especially the blade)?

Not many exist, seems like.

I think most box cutters/utility knives have some blade movement. Rattle too, I guess but I never paid any attention to that since I never carry one except when I need to use it. There is quite a diversity of utility knives available these days. Small is good or okay for breaking down some boxes. Larger for cutting things like carpet to keep your knuckles away from the floor and potential impacts.

No picture but the same Stanley Utility knife has been riding in my tool box for 50 years. Other than some of the grey paint wearing off it looks great, carries it's own supply of extra blades, push button with thumb, slide out blade, slide back in. Easy and simple and very ergonomic.

I just shimmed behind the blade with a sliver of credit card.
The rest of the knife is solid.
I use one of the Husky brand knives from Depot and it's solid and reliable. Lifetime guaranteed too.

Personally, I don't like folders because they don't feel comfortable if I have to choke up near the blade for hard cuts. Although Stanley has some nice versions, I usually EDC a retractable (non-folding) $1.99 light and inexpensive box cutter I picked up at W-mart when I'm working on our properties. I end up using that more than the more expensive box cutters I have. It's slim and light, and has worked well for me on drywall, fiberglass insulation, cardboard cutting, carpet, etc... although I picked up some fancier blades for it when I was cutting insulation. It also stores extra blades or varied blades in the handle.

I think my contractor uses a Husky folding utility knife (the ones you see at HD).
