A mandoline would have ensured more consistency but what's the fun in that?

From tree to tummy.
(Just so you all know - this little photo shoot took 4 hand-washings and a beard rinse to get through… 🤣)

I always enjoy your annual paw paw foraging, Tom.:cool:
It often sends me to Wikipedia, and today I noticed that there are many local names for the fruit:
These include wild banana, prairie banana, Indiana banana, Hoosier banana, West Virginia banana, Kansas banana, Kentucky banana, Michigan banana, Missouri banana, Appalachian banana, Ozark banana, Indian banana, banango, and the poor man's banana, as well as American custard apple, asimoya, Quaker delight, and hillbilly mango.
Is there another name than paw paw used frequently in your area?

I have only ever heard them referred to as pawpaws - possibly because there are a couple of local landmarks named after the fruit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paw_Paw_Tunnel

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paw_Paw,_West_Virginia

I kinda like the sound of “hillbilly mango” though …🤣

I think my favorite is the poetic "Indiana banana", since I lived in Indiana for several years.
I haven't heard anything other than paw paw in Michigan, probably for a reason similar to yours: there's a small town just west of Kalamazoo MI called Paw Paw (about 60 miles south of where I live). The "range map" for paw paws in the Wikipedia article I read indicated that Paw Paw, MI is about as far north as paw paws grow in Michigan.

(When I was a kid, the Detroit Tigers had a pretty good outfielder named Charlie Maxwell, who threw and batted left handed and was born in Lawton, MI, quite near Paw Paw, and some media guy gave him the nickname "the southpaw from Paw Paw.")
