For Lord of the Rings Fans; what knife?

It sounded like a folder, but looked like a fixed blade. Possibly a flick knife?

Alternatively, it might've been held in place by something similar to a Kydex sheath (I doubt Aragorn was using Kydex), hence the "clip" sound could be similar to the sound made by Kydex sheaths when a knife is removed. Though it doesn't really account for why Aragorn did a mild flicking motion. Most likely a flick knife then.

A few folders that I think could fit. Really, a lot of stuff would work with silvery polished handles and some gold tone scrollwork. Pics are not mine and from various sources found through google.

as for knives, how about CS counterpoint, Gryphon M1, Al Mar Sere?

Not to bump a slightly old thread, but...

I think Thorin would use a ZT0700. The knife looks Dwarven in design, especially the blade. I think it's that angular design.

Contrast that, with Thorin's sword before he uses Orcrist:

As far as folders as users go, I can't think of any specific LOTR styled knives, but I can think of plenty that give off a more medieval vibe. The Svord Peasant Knife namely.

There are plenty of blade designs from companies like Spyderco or BM that give the same vibe, but normally the FRN or g10 handles ruin it. If you can rescale them with a nice wood or antler handle they would look great. And even though titanium is hardly period correct, I think the look of nicely aged titanium scales give a nice fantasy vibe.

As I'm a complete fantasy literature dork, I'd like to think more production folders are more in line with Song of Ice and Fire aesthetics. CPM-M4 with a light patina is truly Valyrian steel.

I could not agree more, every time I get a chance to use my M4 Military I feel like I'm stepping into a world of swords, daggers and magic :p it has that nice, organic down curve from handle to tip, nice natural and big handle, and it cuts like a true elf master created it :p

I'm confused here. I thought you were talking about ASOIAF, but then you mentioned an elf master.

I think the Spyderco Puko would be a perfect fit for any one in Rohan, all the viking references and such. I think Aragorn, if he were to carry a folder, would carry either a Benchmade Onslaught, or a CQC-8, big blades that can do utility and fighting duty's. The hobit's would carry either a Sword peasant, or and openeil.

Puukkos are Finnish, not Scandinavian. ;)

Couldn't agree more on your peasant and Opinel thought!

I could see Strider using a Spyderco Military.

Round Eye Knife And Tool (aka REKAT) had a knife called the Hobbit Warrior.

Probably have to dig one up on Arizona Custom Knives or eBay to score one though.

That's actually a copy of the Woodsman's Pal. Not sure if Boker licensed it or stole it, though.

As for LotR style blades, Traditional Filipino Weapons has a few that might work:
