Photos For the love of Lockbacks! (Traditionals only)

That’s a fine looking pair You’ve got there. I had never considered the liners could be different steel than the bolster, I had just assumed that the bolsters and lockbar were polished and the liners were satin finished. But Now I see it would be very difficult to put a different finish on the bolster and liner..interesting stuff

Yeah I also am wondering if there would be a reason to use two types of stainless -- I know 303ss is basically made for ease of machining but seems like the bolsters would be 303 too unless the subtle color difference was the goal... Or it's nickel silver and I'm just crazy /my PH level has dropped and I no longer turn nickel silver dark brown hahaha

A nice pair of 4" 1306 replicas by Takeshi Matsusaki i managed to get my hands on this year. I bought the mammoth and really liked the work and one morning I was literally thinking I wanted a stag one ... Low and behold I checked my email that night and Chris on here had listed his. Sometimes stuff just works out but they are a beautiful pair. I originally thought the stag model had nickel silver liners... Taking a subtle warmer hue compared to the spring and stainless bolsters ... However all my knives with nickel silver anything patina and rust if I look at them wrong and the liners on this knife have not despite handling frequently. I almost wonder if it's 300 series stainless -- non -magnetic -- the only reason I wonder about this is I've seen a Japanese maker label a Ron Lake tribute as having a SUS304 frame that I had assumed was nickel silver (warmer tone than the spring and blade) when looking at the photos -- but who knows... Maybe there's nickel silver less prone to tarnish? Whatever it is I like it more than stainless now that I know it's not going to rust.. buttery smooth but with a positive walk and talk... I The mammoth is just plain smooth with an easy pull and looks like 400 series ss.

lol, i thought it was by design for looks. I'm on the Oregon coast, but the knife didn't leave the house. Also Nickel silver has that stink to it so it must be stainless. You could try to ask Takeshi on instagram but the language barrier might be a problem.
