How about the sword blades that come out of the Nazi Freak's sleaves in the beginning of Hell Boy? Now those look cool.

but i thinking more along the lines of a large blade, double edged, about 6-8in in length.

You have to remember that your forearm is only 8 or so inches long practically you are going to be limited to a knife with around a 6 inch total length.

If you can find a copy of a book called Firearms Curiosa it has pictures and patent drawings for some sleeve guns.

oilman, yeah i thought about those, but they are actually police baton shaped daggers. you can see them up close in a few scenes. so i think he just has them hidden up there and slides them out in that scene. not actually attached to his arms.

jeff, good link. that would work pretty well for my application. i think you may be on to something with this "spy stuff" maybe i'll start searching for james bond type cia stuff etc.

the blade isn't going to be a problem. i can easily fabricate that, it's the mechanism that ejects it that is going to be the problem. i wonder if there is an existing device out there that could be tweaked for this purpose?

You might look at some sort of drawer slide as a starting point for your mechanism. You might propel it using a pull-type spring. Go look at your local hardware store or home center.

i just got off the phone with a gentleman whom i purchased a LOTR sting sword and scabbard by united cutlery from. he told me that the navy seals used to or may currently still use exactly what im talking about. probably much smaller though, but from what he said, they are available. i sent him an email as he requested and he's supposed to look into it for me.

I would be amazed if the SEALS used something like this. Their primary roll is to come through salty, gritty, seawater and land on sandy gritty beaches. This seems perfect for corroding and jamming a mechanism like we are talking about. I think I may have seen sheaths mounted out in the open on forearms used by some amphibious troups. You do want quick access to a knife when you get entangled while in the water. I expect a stainless survival sheath knife, not an automated dagger.

mornin' everyone, anyone think of thoses movies yet? im gonna take a ride up to lowes/homedepot today to look around for ideas. maybe something will catch my eye that will be useful to make the spring loaded device. i really have exhausted every possible search term in google, and i've come up with nothing! even a search term i overlooked would be helpful. anyway here are a few pics of 2 of my knifes from my collection. the long one is the machete i fabricated, the smaller one is self explanitory. my grandfather gave it to me, he brought it over from ww2, german dagger. and a aluminum "paperweight" i fabricated also, lol.

You might consider buying a Dalton Militia Cupid out-the-front automatic (4 3/4 inch blade, about 11 1/2 inches OAL when open). You could make some kind of rig that would hold the knife and deliver it out into your hand. You could then press the button and you're good to go. The advantage here is that if the rig goes off by accident, the worst you would end up with is a closed knife sticking out of your sleeve instead of 4-5 inches of sharp steel.

"HellBoy" had an odd masked mechanical kinda bad guy who fought with blades that shot out of his sleeves like you describe, they were like two or three feet long though...dunno if you'd wanna go that hardcore, heh.

"Underworld" also had one of those I think, the head werewolf used it a lot to stab through car hoods/walls/people etc.....

Only two I can think of, you're right though seems like I've seen it in a hundred places.

underworld!, your right. i have it in my collection. i'll have to watch it again, the lycan character is called lucian. hellboy, is another great flick. but as i said before that undead nazi guy's blades are actually police baton shaped. the have a handle that is attached at a 90* angel. looks like the standard issue police baton, except the have blades on them. remember when he swings them around. i think in that first scene, he just had them up his sleeves, and slid them out. gotta love movie magic.

http://www.sleevegun.com/ , that's what jim west used, and you can buy it off this guy. i heard it's rather pricey though, 300$+. i have also found out that Fairburn actually sold the type of device that i want to make. i dont know if they still do. i have to research it later. gotta go to work, later....

Predator, Blade 2 and Hook (I think) had these sorts of things. I've been toying with the idea of using solonoids to open and close the blade. A permanent magnet on the blade would probably help, and could even turn the thing into a tiny generator (self recharging possibility...) With traditional locks for open and close positions you'd only need a quick jolt of current to open or close so it wouldn't even need much power. Also, since the mechanism is completely solid state, and physicaly isolated from the blade it would be extremely reliable in harsh conditions. I'm not completely sure how to build it... and I'm pretty sure building it in Canada is illegal anyways :) Ha, come and get me coppers... as soon as I find a breadboard the world is DOOMED!

EZ, i like the way you think! lol. solenoid, good idea. a while back i was experimenting building electromagnets. as im sure you know, all you have to do to make an electromagnet is wrap wire around a iron rod, and connect it to a battery. a solenoid basically is an electromagnet but the rod floats inside the wire. when the current is applied, the rod is either pulled into the coil, or ejected. good idea but may be a bit complicated, at least for me. if your interested in solenoids etc, i found a great board on magnetism and solenoids and other cool devices. www.otherpower.com . it's an awesome site with a good discussion board. you wont believe some of the ideas and devices that people have made there. i haven found anything about a product made by fairburn yet, but 2 people have told me they used to make this type of device. the thing that i cant believe is that i cant even find any information on this type of device on the net. i have used every search term imaginable, and google, yahoo, lycos. nothing! i know someone has made someting like this before. even something that could be modified to be used for this device would be great. well, search continues..........

hey wetdog1911, i just woke up so lets make sure we're on the same page. when i said "is it safe" im refering to the BG in marathon man, who keeps asking DH that question in that famous scene. not if it's safe to use this type of weapon, lol. but i assume you know that. that was a great movie. another movie that just hit me, speaking of pistols, is alien resurrection. remember the one guy from the team that brings the humans in stasis for the alien experiments. he had two pistols up his sleeves that would fly out when he wanted them. gold cutter, thats a good example. try and remember the name of the movie. i want this to stay on topic, but let me deviate one second. wetdog, i had this conversation with my girlfriend yesterday. ever notice that every movie that steven segal is in, he carrys a 1911 or variant as his primary weapon. he must be into guns and likes the 1911, cause every movie i have ever seen him in, he has one. next, i dont know where all you guys live, but im from PA and i have a concealed carry permit. i can carry a friggin 50 cal desert eagle under my shirt if i want, but it's still illegal to carry a little automatic knife. sorry about the rant, but this always seemed really stupid to me. anyway, back on topic. i have to go to work soon, but i'll be thinking about movies with this type of weapon today. if you guys think of a more current movie, post it. or even search terms to look for it. i have seen plans to build an electromagnetic rail gun on the net, i know someone has built one of these before. i just have to find it.

Same page. I meant it wasn't very safe for the BG. LOL Not in the end at least. Yeah, I like Segal because of that. Why work up a lather when you can just bust a cap on them? Chuck Norris also. It seems like Bruce Lee was the only one to bring nothing to a gunfight and win. Well, the guy in the Matrix.

That's weird with your CCW up there. AFAIK the only things that are a no no here are full auto weapons and knives that shoot the blade out of the handle. I conceal a Busse fixed blade which is faster than any automatic. No buttons to push. Of course the 1911 is on the other side.

Had a cop give me a hard time about the knife, but didn't say squat about the custom Colt Officers ACP that was also on me. Struck me as kind of odd, but I guess the knife freaked him out more than the pistol.

Good luck in your quest. Seems like you're getting close, just mucho $$$.

yeah, it's a really stupid law imo, makes no sense at all. that's interesting about the speed of you knife. can you give me a link to a pic and information about it? might have to pick one of those up. my favorite auto is a microtek knockoff i bought at a flea market. i paid like 35 bucks for it, but it is suprisingly good quality. after some tweaking, it is quite sturdy and reliable. i've had it over 2 years and havent had one problem with it yet. i dont know the exact name of it but it is the one that comes with wood panels on each side, and it is activated by pushing the top of the handle to the right. if you weren't into autos, you'd never know it is an auto. it otherwise looks and can operate like a regular liner lock. looks nice after i ditched the wood panels and made aluminum ones, the bead blasted it. i'll have to take a pic.

back to topic, still having zero luck finding any info on this device, im ready to give up searching the web cause i searched everywhere imagineable. just going to have to fabricate it myself. i was at home depot today and they have a drawer slider that would work good on inertia or gravity. it slides out into 3 pieces, hard to explain. but its really smooth, it locks ito place pretty tight when closed, but not when its extended. had the girlfriend with me today when i was looking so i couldnt stay that long. going to go up to lowes tomorrow to look for more ideas.

LOL, I guess it was late when you read my post. It's a Busse and all he has made (so far) are FIXED blades. Or, check out the manufs section, Busse is there. What you're looking for is basicly a fixed blade with a faster delivery system. No?
