FSS Stamped Council Tools Pulaski "Twisted Neck" variation. Anyone?

I am thoroughly impressed with the welcoming reception I've received & willingness to assist in finding answers I've witnessed, on my posts and others. It's been more than enough to make my mind up regarding paid membership as soon as it's in the budget.

Thanks Steve Tall

Here's a picture of the GSA, since that always makes the most sense trying to descibe something.

It looks like they also relaxed the handle standards somewhat:

EXCEPTION’s TO FOREST SERVICE DRAWING MTDC-632F:
1) "MTDC-632F, second sheet, side view of the Handle "2", delete the "12 REF" dimension without replacement."
2)"MTDC-632F, sheet 2, delete all +/- 1/16 cross-section diameter tolerances and replace with +1/4, -1/8 cross-section diameter tolerances."
You're the best Steve! Tolerance of +1/4" in diameter (hugely different from +/- 1/16" specs) explains how major player Link can continue to be involved with this. Sure it's more difficult to break a 'club' but it also makes for a lesser ergonomic tool, and a lot less effort to meet standards.

Muleman, have you noticed any difference in the steel of the GSA stamped pulaski?

Compared to one from recent times stamped FSS..... no not really.

They're plenty good for the job, but none of these later made ones are like the True Tempers.
If I ever I find those, which is seldom these days, they get pulled and hoarded. ;)

Something i recently came into and am now hoarding...(i'm a poor steward of my tools, and so am not in a hurry to acquire more...:(

But it's incredible, the difference...The convexity, and how thin the cheeks are,and even the original haft on this one, close to perfect grain, and just a thin wooden wedge, and after all these years,it barely slid out of the eye, about 3/16" is all...(it's a two-ridge eye)...

That's the kind. Incidentally, since it's in your picture, I hoard those edge guards as well. No orange plastic for me!

Beauty of a straight haft and a perpendicular butt is you can smack the tool down hard (butt-first) on a stump or other solid object (boulder, concrete curb or blacksmith anvil, even) until the head is reset to where it should be. Then set it head down in a trough, bucket or pail (or Ford 'dog bowl' hubcap) full of used motor oil (or BLO if you're really feeling flush) for a few days to swell the wood up.

Thanks,300Six,the haft is still solidly held in there but i ought to do that...

I was just reading about this warrior-cult(and already forgot where...maybe Cambodia?),where the ritualised sword-excercise routine includes, every few moves, grabbing the sword by the blade and knocking the handle back on...(some resin+charcoal type mix gets soft in the heat of the day,or whatever, one just never knows!:)...So yeah, that sounds like my speed:)
