Gayle Bradley 1 discontinued

When did this happen? I wasn't aware that it was officially slated for oblivion, but yet there it is...

It's been expected since they announced the GB2. There was a lot of discussion here and on the official forums earlier in the year regarding the GB's fate once the second iteration was released. It became apparent pretty quickly that they weren't going to continue both designs. Which made me sad. I think they're unique enough from each other to merit both. But I'm just me.

Friar, I agree with you. I hardly see how the 2 "replaces" the 1 or can even be compared to it, they are two completely different knives. The 2 has a blade positioned above the fingers and forward considerably, so the methods of use won't be the same at all.

Honestly the 2 reminds me more of the ProTech TR-3 than the Gayle Bradley 1. But I do like the TR-3, so I'll probably give it a shot...

It was yesterday that I saw the Gayle Bradley was officially discontinued on the Spyderco site - may have happened earlier though. My local B&M had them on sale which made me curious...

I noticed it yesterday when looking up the specs. Weird thing is I don't think it was on the 2015 "list" so it caught me off guard. I guess I got lucky, in a month or so I'm not sure these will be around at sane prices.

I've never even seen the 2; but the comments above have me curious...guess I'll have to look.

Just judging by looks alone (which is about half the equation for me anyway), I much prefer the GB 1. The GB 2 somehow looks... err, feminine, when compared to the GB 1.

I kinda like the 2...I guess I just figured it was going to be a scaled down version.

Someone here made reference to seeing it being disco'd on the Spyderco site two weeks ago.

Yeah it was widely expected with the impending GB2 release... There's alot to go around now, no excuses guys get your preneed backups!

I'd urge anyone on the fence to pick up a GB1. I'm a big fan. I must admit though, that I'm very excited about the sequel. I may like it even more. A little thinner in the handle and perhaps more of a neutral balance? Can't wait.

Looks like my GB1 is about to triple in value...well, from a monetary standpoint anyway. Anyone that has one already knows the workhorse utility that it is.

I guess now isn't the time to post my GB on the Exchange, lol. Guess I'll be hanging on to it at least until it's out of stock in the stores - no sense competing with discontinued pricing.

really sad to see this knife go,as i think its one of spyderco's best made/hard use folders!not much a fan of GB2.

The Bradley folder is a great knife, carried and used one almost an entire year (almost 300 days) when they came out It is a beautiful knife and very capable. I hope this new one has Rc of 64 though. ;)

Hopefully they save all the tooling... that way years from now when the GB2 gets stale, we all can look back and pine for the legendary GB of old, which they can bring back and do a sprint of the GB1 in some unique steel and scale of the future, haha
