Going back to the Tinker

Like many (most?) "made in USA" products these days, there are some Leatherman models with imported parts. This can be for several reasons, among them critical components not available from US manufacturers, like some kinds of fasteners, for example, all of which are made offshore. Recognizing this reality, each state has domestic content legislation to define what majority percentage of a product must be entirely US made in order to qualify overall for a "Made in USA" label. These standards vary from state to state, with California's the most strict. A few years ago, a court determined that some Leatherman products were not in compliance and could not be advertised as US-made in that state. Even though Leatherman content was enough USA for almost all the other states, rather than complicate their distribution with different production runs for different markets, they eliminated the designation altogether. I have two Leatherman Micras bought around the time just before and after this decision, one marked "USA" and the other "Tool." Same product, both wholely made in USA.
 
I have an adventurer, red farmer, tinker, bantam, pocket pal, classic, rally and my darling wife just got me a camo huntsman. The tinker is what started all. It has more miles than all others combined. If I have pants on I have a sak in my pocket
