Griptilian550 blade

Hello all. I am hoping I can get some help here with this. I decided to clean my 550 Griptilian and lube the washers and omega springs. When I removed the blade I noticed there is a small hole next to the pivot hole that goes thru the blade. Does any one know what this is for.

From what I can gather, it's to identify what blade steel the blade is made out of. Wouldn't want you to get an s90v blade by mistake...

Is it possible this divot is just a location for lubricant to settle for repeated openings?

like colin.p said, they’re identifying markers to tell the blade steels apart before they’re laser marked. if you check blades from the same model in different steels there’ll be a different number of holes for the different steels.
