Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Hi Guardians, I've been out of pocket the last two days due to moving into a new home. I must be a lunatic for doing it. What an ordeal...and it's not over yet. We need to go back to our former residence and clean it up and also remove some our our things that the movers would take. luckily we have had bright and sunny weather; well how about mid 90's (humidity and temperature. Who knew that they objected to 5 gallons cans of gasoline and paint solvents? The really big chore though is breaking down all the boxes. Thankfully I have one superior tool for that...my HHB.

I would go for 20 degrees, these are sturdy work knives that is there intention, as long as you get your angles to Apex on your first grit when you take it to whatever sharpening medium you are going to use, that is the key. Then progress through grits, you can get these razor sharp at 20 degrees and the edge holds up well. I have had these really toothy sharp at 240 grit, 600 grit and they are really sharp and hold up well, just get your first grit right, and it usually takes more time than you think. I used to sharpen work knives for some blokes at an abattoir, and they mostly used 20 degree bevels, because that angle holds it's edge very well. Have a good weekend.
That's good advice Leon, interesting about the abattoir workers
Yup, I've got some at about 13 DPS, give or take, and have my rosewood at 15 DPS. I end up stropping them often and they get a bit of convex to the edge. I think 15 is where I'll go next time, but I'd say experiment and go with what works for you. The lambsfoot accepts all kinds. :D
It's great to see you here Greg, I was thinking about you just this morning, and wondering how you're doing :) I think Cambertree Cambertree has also tried some of those acute-angled edges

I don't envy you on the moving process Bill, but hope you're very happy in your new home :) I'm very glad to see how much you've taken to that Hartshead Barlow :)

Good morning Guardians, hope everyone made it through the week in one piece :) More rain yesterday here, despite the promise of a "heatwave", but the sun is out today, for now at least. My girlfriend has to attend a Zoom conference today (doesn't that sound like fun?!), and all my other pals are either away or working, so my hike is postponed until tomorrow - weather permitting! I'll probably go out for a stroll though, maybe grab a coffee :) Whatever you have planned for the weekend, have a good one Guardians

From 2017 ;)

Yes, you are quite correct, Chin has 15 degree bevels on many of his Lambsfoot's, a few with convex edges if my memory serves me correctly. :)
Have you heard anything from him recently Leon?

It's always great to see Old Toffee Wings Jer :)
The Memorial GAW has me thinking of Dave dc50 dc50 I sure do miss him.
I hope he's well but the way he just disappeared I fear the worst (hope I'm wrong).
That's a very thoughtful giveaway John :) I miss Dave too, my friend, he was the life and soul of the party :) Rockon75 Rockon75 's thread had me thinking, fondly, of a lot of members, who over the years have simply stopped posting, even after years of being here. Occasionally they return, but often they never do, which is very sad :( A few that spring to mind are pertinux pertinux , Old & In The Way Old & In The Way , W wellington , @smilingknife, and Fes over in New Zealand I sure hope they're all well, and find their way back here one day. Heck, I still miss Blues Blues , who was the gaffer here when I first started posting regularly (even though he still pops in very occasionally)! :D :)

Thank you, my friend. It’s nice to be thought of. :)

I was thinking about you on Thursday, while reading an article in Adventure Journal. It was about the expedition that located George Mallory’s body on Everest. The vast majority of it was excerpts from the transcripts of radio communications amongst the team and also from a video taken when they located his body, originally thinking it to be his partner, Andrew Irvine. I must say, it was quite thrilling to read and imagine the trudgery of their search and excitement of their discovery. Their comments at his burial were quite poignant.

No mention of Mallory’s lambsfoot, but a fantastic read nonetheless.

Ditto Greg :)

That sounds very interesting  I remember reading the reports in the British climbing press at the time. The book below is also both interesting and moving

Every time I see this gorgeous Knife Jack I have this wonderful vision of you standing in front of me, it’s weird as I am sure I have not seen you with this knife in person but that’s what I get when I view this knife my friend.
Getting my very precious Stag A C out today Jack in a EDC Rotation swap! Ready for my next travels!!!

No i haven't, i will try to contact him this week, we have gone back into a lockdown, so he won't be at work.🤷‍♂️.
I hope the lockdown is brief and effective Leon  Please give Chin my best mate :)

That's funny Duncan :) No, I don't think you have ever seen me with it my friend :) Safe travels with your AC
Good Saturday evening, Guardians. I hope everybody is enjoying the long weekend.

I’ve been using this knife so much I had to touch up the edge today. Got a nice patina forming as well.

She’s sharper than a demon with laser beam eyes now. Really enjoying this useful pattern. 👍
Glad you're enjoying the pattern AntDog AntDog :)

That sounds like a basis for a Lambsfoot Heavy Metal tribute :D :)

Good morning Guardians, hope you're all having a great weekend :) I'm just about to head out for a hike, might even get a pint in a country pub later ;) Enjoy your Sunday Guardians

Opinions vary on the edge Todd, most of mine are sharpened to 18-20 degrees per side, but the Rosewood Big 'Un I was carrying yesterday, I have at 15 degrees per side. Greg WhittlinAway WhittlinAway prefers an even more acute angle. I have to say, I'm perfectly happy with 20 degrees, or a little less. What do you other Guardians think?

I usually go with about 15 dps. Works for me.

It's good to see you around my friend, hope you're keeping well :)

I've had a nice day out, but as I usually go for a hike on a Saturday, rather than Sunday, I'm feeling a little disorientated! :D Feeling kind of disorientated by the fact the sun is actually shining today too, after so many miserable days  We had a nice walk, saw a whole load of deer, and a couple of dozen Red Kites, and I even got a pint ;) I'll try and sort out some more pics later

It started off a little dull here today, but brightened up throughout the morning, and eventually became a bright sunny day :) Just as this inchworm caterpillar will eventually turn into something looking quite different! :D ;)

It wasn't long before we saw our first deer.

We sometimes see a heron at this spot, but he wasn't there today.
