At least you’ll have something good to eat after that soothing bath.
Thanks Harvey, I decided to stick to Ibuprofen and co-codomol, which helped! 😁😉👍
I know that feeling when a bad spell decends. But it always gets better. Wishing you the same. Good luck tomorrow, Birthday Boy.🎉
Thank you my friend :) Hopefully I'm not cursed forever - I nearly started a fire the other day! 😳 The fact that I didn't means I must have SOME luck! 👍
That's a lovely knife. The cracks make it.
Thanks 👍

LOL! Big enough! 😁 Thank you very much, those are great pics 🙂👍
Happy belated birthday, Jack! My usual Happy-Birthday-spelled-out-in-knives photo isn’t thread appropriate, but I have this one that, if my math is right, should be around the number of weeks old you are, yeah? 😉😁

LOL! 🤣 Fantastic Barrett! 😎 It's too cold here today to take off my socks, but that is a cool pic! 😎 Thank you for your efforts my friend 🙂👍

Thanks. I don't think I'll be sending the other four bottles back.

Good Morning Guardians.
The Lambsfoot is always ready when called upon.
Definitely John :)

Hope you're all having a good day Guardians :) It's been a raw day here today! Very different to last Thursday  I didn't check my pockets too carefully before I left the house, and ended up having a Double Lambsfoot Day! :D

Many thanks my dear friends, and fellow Guardians (it's still my birthday for another 3 hours) :) What a day! :D I was concerned I'd injured my back, and I never know how it's going to be until the next day, but fortunately I just had some stiffness and a little pain, which soon went. The weather has been horrid! With the exception of a period of about 2 hours this afternoon, it has rained most of the day, with low temperatures, and bitter winds. It did stop raining a couple of times to snow! I had a nice day regardless, but was glad to get back in (though my boiler still isn't running right). The weather forecast for tomorrow stinks too, and it's my weekly trip to the market, so tired as I am, I'm going to have to get my stuff together for an early departure in the morning. As soon as I get time to edit my pics from today, I'll post a full report! ;) I did get my pint though, thanks :) Cheers Guardians

Love the images of your market images. Think of that first warm, Sunny day. Double Lambs is a good thing.

Good Morning Guardians

My girlfriend had asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday yesterday, and as I haven't been to the coast for a few years, I said that's what I'd like to do :) Rail fares have gone crazy here, I doubt there's a country in the world which has more expensive public transport than here, and so to save a few quid, I booked the tickets 2 weeks in advance, and bought an Over 60's Railcard, which gave me a 30% discount. Still came to £50 for a 140 mile round trip! When I booked the tickets, we were in the midst of spring, but then winter returned with a vengeance yesterday!

Our destination was Scarborough, a thoroughly unpretentious, old-fashioned, Yorkshire seaside town, for my birthday beano yesterday. I don't know if they knew I was coming, but it was closed!

Just boarding the train here, irrespective of the grim weather forecast ;)

We had been allocated the same seats as my house number! Spooky! :D ;)

The weather forecast proved accurate, it was raining heavily, and absolutely freezing

A lot of English seaside towns are small over-grown villages, which hug the shoreline, and make all their income from seasonal visitors. Scarborough is larger, and more of a proper town, separated from the sea and sand by steep hillsides. Up on the hill is Scarborough Castle, which has an interesting history, and also gives its name to the phrase 'Scarborough warning', which is widely used, and generally misused, in some parts of Yorkshire, including Leeds. In 1557, Scarborough Castle was seized by Thomas Stafford, the defenders and townsfolk being unaware of his approach until it was too late to act. The phrase 'Scarborough warning', which I had never heard before moving to Leeds, was the result, meaning a warning that is only given when it is too late to act upon. However, certainly in Leeds, to give someone 'a Scarborough', is simply to warn them - usually to desist/shut up/go away before they get a thump! :D

Another feature, which dominates the Scarborough skyline is the Grand Hotel. Like the castle, it has seen better days, but also has an interesting history (few videos about it on the Tube).

Having arrived in the town in pouring rain, we thought we would find somewhere nice for a coffee, and browze a few antique shops out of the rain. I had checked the websites of various emporiums the previous day to ensure they would be open

To get up and down the steep hillside, the inventive Victorians had the idea of building tramways, or funicular railways, which run up and down the cliff. There were several, even in my lifetime, but now only one tram is still in working condition.

The 2 minute trip costs £1.20, but is well worth it, particularly compared to climbing up the precipitous, ancient flights of steps, which run up and down the hills. Unfortunately...

UfRAyW7.jpg

Nearby, was a Photoshopped sign depicting a blurred-faced child being carried off by a huge gull! By coincidence, I had been listening to a comedy podcast, the previous evening, where the signs were mentioned in a neighbouring town. Certainly many seaside resorts, around the coast of Britain, harbour vast gulls, which terrorise the unlucky doughnut eater or ice-cream licker  Scarborough certainly has its share  Looking forward to gull season! :)

As we walked along the road, we saw an interesting old shop sign, and the place turned out to be a cafe, which served excellent coffee :) And cake :) :)

It was nice to shelter out of the cold, and we felt better for the extra calories, and the hot coffee ;) Continuing our journey, we continued to come across closed shops

The market wasn't closed though, and we were impressed, particularly by the subterranean 'Vaults', which house a whole bunch of bookshops, and 'collectors shops' selling everything from old coins to vintage comics

Not far from the market, there's a street I've liked since I was a kid. It slides downhill fairly gently, and is dotted with small independent shops, everything from tat shops to tattooists. I probably purchased a few penknives from the shops on this road as a kid :)

This cafe doesn't look like it's changed since I was a kid! :D
