Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Beautiful Barlow Steve πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Thanks pal !

I hope everyone's week is off to a good start. I've had a nice day πŸ™‚ After taking care of some chores in the house, I walked down to Charlie's for coffee and a croissant, then caught the bus into town, called in at the bank, bought a few groceries, bumped into an old friend, and then went for a Japanese lunch πŸ˜‹

I walked through town, and bumped into Slimline Scott, who told me about the 'Rods and Rockers' weekend. As I'd predicted, Boring Ray and his missus ended up sleeping in their car, which can't have been very pleasant, particularly 2 nights in a row πŸ™„

After leaving Scott, I went to the market to buy bread, and was introduced to the new lady who is going to be working on the bread stall. She is originally from Vanvouver, and I was surprised when she said she didn't know Charlie πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I picked up a few more things, and headed home, bumping into Matt on the way. He was due back at work unfortunately, but then Wolfie came over to take me for a coffee. We headed up the road, and sat outside in the sun with coffee and cheesecake, putting the world to rights πŸ˜„

All in all, a pretty good start to the week πŸ‘

Sounds like it buddy ! πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Thanks again, Jack!!
*So much history lost!!!
Maybe I need to get over to Sheffield in my Wellington boots Charlie! πŸ˜‰ Sadly, the cutlery industry were often very poor at preserving history. It was worse in London, where the cutlers' guild lost all their records in a fire πŸ˜•
And I thought I knew everyone out here!!! 😁
I definitely thought everyone knew you my friend! 😁
I was up a 0630. Which isn't early for most people but it is for me. I usually up and down a lot at night but don't usually stay up till 1000 or 1100. Probably be napping when I get back to the house. Been to the pharmacy, grocery store and went by the Apt to get my mail. Hadn't been to to town in over a week.
I hope you sleep better tonight David πŸ€žπŸ‘

Mate record keeping was very hit and miss in the day. Pre-Computers everything was done by hand on paper and kept in cardboard Manilla files most are lost. A good friend of mine over 40 years ago was highly successful in body building, she won a swag of tiles across the world and virtually the only records are her trophies and diaries. These sports were amateur organizations run by volunteers, and they had full time jobs. Where all her records were kept was a small office which is now under about 30/40 stories of offices and all the files just disappeared, to put them into a computer would have been a full time job itself and probably no one had the tech skills to do it. Sad, but record keeping back then was just so haphazard, and most of those old offices/factories were just fire traps waiting to happen.

My best friend will grow a bunch of starters from seeds and then share them around with everyone for their gardens. A few years ago I think we got three tomato plants from him. He contacted me a few weeks ago and asked how many we'd like this year, and I told him to give me all the tomatoes he can - put me last on the list and I'll take whatever's left over. I was kind of hoping we'd get ten or so plants - we have plans to build a bunch of good raised beds for next year, but we still have the kind of crappy raised bed from last year, and we could get about ten in there.

He showed up with sixty plants - tomatoes, peppers, squash, basil...

So Dawn and I spent all our spare time over the last couple of weeks (which wasn't much because we've been kind of buried beneath work and church commitments) clearing a spot and building the 2026 garden beds. I've moved four cubic yards (that's about three cubic meters for my metric friends, or two full-sized truckbeds-full) of redwood mulch. I have another two cubic yards sitting in my truck right now. This will finish up the bed nearest the camera in this pic and cover up the paper on the ground all around them. Then I need to put two to four yards of topsoil in the beds, then we can actually plant the plants which are currently living on my sun porch - hopefully all done next weekend. With them going in the ground so late I'm not if we'll actually get much produce, but hey, we're way ahead on our 2026 plan.

The GL-24 was around for the whole thing, and was helpful in digging a few redwood splinters out.

Now that's a good friend. Nice looking gardens, tough work but should be a nice harvest or two!

You're right Leon. I'm not sure about today, but 5 years ago, Wright's in Sheffield didn't own a computer, and still wrote orders down on scraps of paper, which were often lost, or misinterpreted. Other cutlers I've known kept no records at all, or kept 2 sets of books. To quote one feller, "It's for tax reasons...I don't pay any."

Good morning Guardians, I hope your week is off to a flying start :) I woke up with a stiff neck, after falling asleep on an extra pillow  It's cooler today, and it's been raining. I have a few more errands to run later, but hopefully it'll be another easy day :) Have a good one Guardians :thumbsup:Cosimo De Bendetto Pals Lambsfoot 7-9.JPG
