The Southern New England Knifemakers Guild will be having a HI at my shop in April. We will do our best in the scheduling of the date not to conflict with any other event scheduled in April.
The demos are up to the attendees. Here are some of the demos.
Forging
Damascus making/ cable
Basic Mosaic Damascus making
Gas forge building
Grinding
Filework
Will have cutting competitions
Door prize 12" gas forge. The forge will need gas hookup and blower.
Please advise if you would like to see any other type of demos.:D
Will have 4 gas forges up and running. This should allow everyone to play in the fire. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!
Head count will be kept to 30.

Hey IG. I won't make this hammer-in, but wanted to let you know that I'll be up in Newport for June and July getting the family settled in on the Navy Base before I head for Iraq again. Hopefully I can make it down to one of your get togethers before I go.

Whit, we can have a Mini-HI in your honor on a Saturday when you are free. But, I can't promise you that you will get your name in the paper again.;) I know they misspelled it. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!

George, you sure those shots weren't from the police blotter?

Well I was afraid that being associated with you in that newspaper article might effect my security clearance, but I guess nobody around New Bedford can read....

Nice article on the last hammer-in IG!

Mace,

I think the only picture that made it into hard copy was the pic of Bill Vining at "Big Bertha".

Wa..Wa..Wally, The first weekend is opening day for Kook's club, he's an officer there and he has to attend, the second weekend is his wedding anniversary, if he were to go to a HI, Marleen would kick his a$$, the third weekend will be a service for a fallen Brother, I'm available the 4th weekend.

First or fourth are fine for me. 2nd would find me there a little late. Since I ain't going without BB-Beaver, I vote with him on the fourth weekend:D

Checkout the pic's on Justin's site of the HI.
Indian George's Hammer-in
George Rebello, or Indian George as most people know him by, is a bladesmith who lives down in New Bedford Mass. His nickname was garnered by the fact that he drives a 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle. You can visit his webpage here. www.indiangeorgesknives.com He's a great guy who is always willing to help out those just getting started with bladesmithing. One of the ways in which he helps is by having hammer-ins at his house where people of all experience levels can come and hang out, work on some blades, use his forging press, and just have a good time. This spring George had a large hammer-in complete with a cutting competition, door prize raffles, and great food!

The Images!
IG's hammerin pictures in chronological order

So I arrived bright and early along with several bags of ice for the drinks. I pulled up at 7 am, to find this... Louis already there and cutting up some cable to make lolipops for damascus. And he had to drive twice as far as me !

Kook and Larry arrived right around the same time that I did, and we got ourselves signed in and entered into the doorprize raffle.

Larry didnt waste any time getting back to work on a damascus billet which he had started on a few weeks back, grinding off the scale so he could fold it up for a new weld.

I helped George get the forges all fired up to make sure all the connections were good and that things were working.

A little while later Bill V was working on some twist damascus of his own and grinding off scale to draw it out more. Sean, Louis, and Larry were sent running because Bill didnt warn them before he started showering them with sparks =D

From here on in, I dont remember everyone's names, so if people can help me out later to get them labled properly, it'd be great.
Here's someone, Mace, and Louis, with Jean in the background.

Larry, after finishing the damascus he was working on, forged out a blade of his own.

Here's a katana blade which Mace had forged out of a piece of W2 roundbar.

Mace did a short grinding demo... after breaking IG's KMG ! (think he just blew a fuse)

Aldo forged down a square of W1 into a suitable bar... and while it was cooling decided to leave his mark. In the background is a bunch of people enjoying some Jose and limes.

And lastly, mace was making a massive damascus billet since the press was free and he had the time.
