Well, here it is. My first piece of Mokume. It is made out of 51 layers of copper and nickel silver. The sheet stock was 26 gauge. I was kinda suprised at how well this one turned out. I was expecting a molten lump of copper alloy at the bottom of my forge. Now lets see if i can get this guy drawn out and twisted with out delamination.

The hardest part was getting all 51 layers stacked between the pressure plates. After that it was just a nice easy heat up in the forge until the copper started to "sweat".

I dipped one end in ferric for about 30 seconds so the layers would show up in the pictures.

Man this blade smithing stuff is great!!! :D

How high do you have to bring this stuff up? 700 - 800º? I have no clue, I'm just asking. I'd be interested in making some, as this $75 a pop from TKS is awfully prohibitive...

The temperature was probably around 1900 degrees F.

Hope this helps.

Sure looks good to me. and the coupla blades I saw with copper work today from a coupla makers, convince me yet again to stick with copper, at least for some things. gives great, different look. :)
