Anyone collect Hattori Knives? Or am I the only one...lol
Most recent purchase is this KD30-3718, a 4" blade Cowry-X Damascus version
of the regular VG10 3718. A bit of a pretty jewel like piece, doubt I'll ever use it.
Many know that Ichiro Hattori was the OEM maker for several name brands, including Kershaw, Browning, Beretta, Tekna and SOG. This is one of the models that Hattori used to make for Browning back in the late 70s/80s. The Browning 3718 was in 440c, which IIRC, was later disclosed to be Aus8.

Gorgeous knives, never heard of them.

I have always wanted a Hattori knife. I have looked at a website that shows his limited supply of available knives. The guy is in his 70's pretty awesome. I was hoping someone would know if Ichiro hattori was involved in the Kershaw wild turkey damascus vg1 16 layers. Looks like his style to me. Made in japan. Dave andersons posted it here i believe. Beautiful knife by the way. Great buy.

Ichiro Hattori, now maybe 76-77 years old made the 3718 model for Browning as well as the famous Double Edged Damascus Hunter. This model is also still made by Hattori in again VG10 and a Damascus version. Just about any of the Browning Damascus "commemoratives" are Hattori knives, but I'm still trying to track down each one. Here are photos of the old discontinued Browning Damascus Hunter and Hattori's current version.
The Browning Damascus Hunter is said to have been designed by Gil Hibben and made by Ichiro Hattori, starting in 1985 for some years. I don't know when exactly it became discontinued.

Thank you. I am certain the Kershaw Wild Turkey series were Hattori knives. I'm still looking for information to confirm it. Meantime, my Kershaw 1030 and 1050 turned out to be Hattori knives. He apparently made all the 10xx series for Kershaw and again, he has current models which although slightly modified in design and steel from Aus8 to VG10 are readily recognizable. These were I understand designed by Hattori from the start.

Nice knives. The brand name comes up in threads now and again. Run a thread content search, and you should be able to find some discussion.

They are beautifully made knives. Well worth the the money.

I've been through every archived thread (in just about every forum) and found some discussion, usually questions asking who Hattori is. Very few if any people owning, much less collecting any. I know that the quality F&F is regarded highly not just by knifecollectors but even some knifemakers. I'm hoping some people who have them will stumble onto this thread.
I got into collecting Hattoris after I was able to confirm that Hattori was the maker of all the classic Seki Sogs (1986-2005) that I had collected. I was even able to add a Hattori TV2, an Leather Handle version of the SOG Trident S2 without the USN Seal emblem, something that SOG never made.
But collecting Hattoris is difficult because they only make very small numbers in occasional batches, so everything is usually in a state of perpetual "sold out".

If you keep an eye on the Japanese Knife Direct folks, you'll see them available - that's where I used to get my MCUSTA's (until I found a good local source).

Only have Hattori Kitchen knives. They are among my favourites. This "HD-8" Chefs Knife is a kitchen sword.

Did Hattori make or design the Tekna dive knife? If so I have one.

Yes, Hattori both designed and made the Tekna K2200 dive knife. He was still making the skeletonized ones at least until fairly recently.

I have the Hattori version of the Kershaw 1050 in laminated VG-10.

It has nickelsilver and Ebony, instead of brass and phenolic plastic.
I sometimes use it and it holds an edge way better, than my old Kershaw 1050 in AUS 8!

Beautiful knife Mikael. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say I am quite jealous. LOL
I am assuming that knife goes back a bit since they are only made in cocobolo now.

They are always out of stock when I check and also pretty pricey.
I would not mind a Guyto in Coury-X though.

This knife is my largest Hattori.According to the store in Seki, I allegedly have one of only two made. It is called the YH-1 and made of an unusual
carbon steel described as:
""Hitachi YHB2, which is an alloy tool steel used for bearing. It contains 1.10-l.20 Carbon, 0.30-1.00 Chromium and 1.25-1.75 Tungsten. 7" Semi-Drop point hollow ground blade in 7.0mm thick with false edge on back, 5" Leather washer Handle with solid Nickel Silver Hilt and Butt with spacers and lanyard hole. Comes with double stitched brown leather sheath. He said he will never make it again."

(As an aside, due to it's size and appearance I decided against a recent purchase of an NL2 in favor of the larger NL1.)

It was the 30th anniversary of the # 1050.
300 was made of the Hattori model.
Another 500 was made for Kershaw and came with a displaybox in wood.
Those were with damascus VG-10 blades and Pakka-Wood scales.

I got mine in 2007 and it was the last one availible in Europe.
There was two more for sale in Japan, but they are gone since long.

You got an amazing collection of Hattori's!
Thanks for sharing!

If the NL's counts in this thread, I have a few.

For a big knife, I prefer the NL2 over the NL1, as it's easier to carry in the belt or store in a daypack.
In my kind of forests, I don't need more power, than what I get in an eight inch blade.

NLs certainly count Mikael. Not only do I envy your FK collection but the fact that you can actually put an NL2 to use. At my age, lifestye and location, my S1 is about as big a fixed blade as I could get away with wearing..LOL
