Hello I am starting to dabble into the knife making and I have a question. I usually have been making file knives and just staring using 1084 steel. The question is why did i get hundreds of little circles( like air bubbles on my steel after ht. The only difference in my ht this time is that i heated then air cooled the blade 3 times the final ht and quenched in oil. After tempering I notice the small circles. I'm thinking I may have over heated it. Took out of forge after it demagnitized each time. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

You probably held the blade still in the flame of your forge too long (several times). You'll get weird decarb patterns. You can sand through that layer, but with all that heating you've got your work cut out for you.

Daizee thanks for the response. Previously I only heated blade once then quenched. Tried something new this time. I'll stick to the single heat treat for now.
