I’m going to the Atlanta Blade Show this year and I‘ve got a few knives that I need heat treated (because I’m not setup right now to do it myself) but here’s the problem, I was going to send them to https://www.jarodtodd.com/ but his website says “sold out“ and
I don’t want to send them to Peter’s because 1) there a little bit of a pain and the blade almost always come back warped, and 2) every time I use them it takes forever to get them back, in fact I have a one off custom there right now that’s just been sitting in there warehouse for over a month now. So does anyone know of someone else that can heat treat a few blades for me and get them back with enough time for me to finish them before the show? Perhaps another maker here on BF.

Any help would be greatly appreciate!

Regards Joseph.

I send mine to Peters', and while I do see torch marks occasionally, they do come back straight. I usually only send 1-4 blades per batch and they usually come back in 2-3 weeks. A batch over Christmas took an extra week. You could phone and explain your concern about Blade coming up.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I signed up for email notification of job status. These come twice per day and sometimes aren't up-to-date (unless they are really tempering my blades for several days...).

Just got a batch of 105 back today fro Peters. All arrow straight. Gone about five weeks I guess. But I figure a week to get there and a week to get back.

I sent some blades to TruGrit. They’ve been gone since October… Never doing business with them again. And yes I talked with Jeff. Apparently he was moving and caught covid and that led to something else. However, you don’t just tell the customer when they call you 6 times we’ll have them shipped Monday morning over and over again and never do it.

Thanks for reminding me I had blades out. Time to call back since I was supposed to receive them last Monday.

What type of steel and how big?

Bos heat treating in Idaho ( Buck knives) run by Paul Farner, who took over from Paul Bos. They got my blades on Feb 15th and they were shipped back out to me late last week. 23 blades and 5 different steels, too.

Everything is tempered to 58-59, regardless of steel, at texas knife, except for springs. You cannot specify the rockwell hardness if you want something other than 58-59.

That too. Fine for steels that are at their optimim, but many of the newer steels shine in the low 60's rockwell wise.

I just sent Bos an Email so we'll see what happens, but I'm doubting they'll be any faster then peters.

The thing for me is that I'm a part time maker and I take my time to get everything perfect, so it take's a lot longer for me to finish a knife then most full time makers, which is why I need to get them back ASAP.

Do you have any knifemakers close to you that can do the heat treat for you?

Bos can do oil hardening steels up to 12" overall length.

4 week turn around time including shipping is pretty quick! That was 5 different steel types, too. That includes almost a week each way for UPS from CT to Idaho and back to CT. Usps priority may shorten that time shipping wise.

Bos still hasn’t Emailed me back, And I don’t know when when Jarod Todd is going to start taking orders again.
Do y’all have any other recommendations? if not I’m going to have to send them to Peter’s and hope for the best.

You emailed Paul Farner at Buck Knives for Bos correct? There is a non Buck Knives Bos heat treating as well. They are busy, but got back to me within a day or two.
