Henry AR7 Survival Rifle, junk or blank canvas?

What I'd like to know is if Henry improved the rifle any, or if they simply slapped their name on it. The only information I can really find pertains to the Charter Arms incarnation, not the modern one.

I had a ruger 10/22 take down, and found I could never eliminate the play between the two pieces which effected accuracy. It had a knurled wheel to turn to tighten things up but it never fully did on my rifle. I ended up trading it with some cash for a snap on tool box.

Some point down the road I do want another TD 22 so I'll be watching this thread.

Some very interesting mods on display for both the M-6 and the AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle. If anyone has email addresses for the companies that produce mods or do custom work, it would be good if you shared that info wth the rest of us.

I have an AR7 and like it for what it is - very light backpack plinker. I'v never had a malfunction that I can recall. Trigger and sights are awful though, and the scope rail is misaligned -- I would love mods that would improve those, I wouldn't seek mods that would change the overall character of the gun though - if you want a different type of gun it would probably work best to get a different gun entirely.

I had one in high school (late 1980's). The stock cracked, and the gun was very unreliable. The 10/22 take-down is a vastly superior rifle. In fact, my 10/22TD is more accurate than my non-TD 10/22.

Be careful (i.e. don't do it) with short barrels and rifles. Sure you can screw or otherwise attach a shorter barrel to your rifle in many cases but, you cross into NFA (National Firearms Act) territory in most cases. Just owning a short barrel could be considered 'constructive possession' in some contexts.

If you already have your Form 4, disregard. :)

Dont do what??

If you only own an AR-15 or AR-7 (or other similar types) in a rifle configuration, putting a pistol barrel on it without a valid NFA Form 4 (different if you manufacture it) in your possession is a crime. Owning an AR-15 rifle only and a pistol upper (as one example) can be considered constructive possession and is potentially a crime as well.

I didnt see any posts in this thread refer to doing that (putting a pistol barrel on a rifle), so not sure why you mention this ...

Short barrel on an AR-7 receiver in one of the pictures in this thread. ;)

Just a word of caution so someone doesn't innocently cause themselves a lot of potential grief over "tinkering".

I missed that.

Still unsure of which pic you refer to as you (still) didnt quote the post - is it the one in the OP??

As for that; your post is #26 and out of the blue you talk about something without a quote to (presumably) a much earlier post in the thread.

You could have made it easy by quoting the post in question.

As it is your post #26 with no quote seems to be answer to the previous post in the chronological order (#25), which kinda makes no sense (since you didnt include a quote).

Could have saved some confusion by including a quote instead of posting without any context ....

.....just saying;)

i ordered a AR7 from Henry. It should v at the local shop today.
I wanted it for backpacking and canoeing etc and choose it over the other pack/survival rifles due to the weight, semi auto and cost.
I did order two 15round mags which I assume I will have to play with the fire correctly.

i am not overly concerned about the folding back into the stock so i ordered some 0.025 wall 1 inch diameter titanium which I plan to procure a replacement stock with a small storage in the butt tube.
i found a nice fluted, threaded barrel for 90$ which may be the other upgrade.

it probably won’t drive tacks at 100 yards like my scoped marlin but will be light enough to pack with.
we shall see.
