Hex nut problems

Howdy folks!

I've followed the advice here and got me some stainless steel hex screws for my 2 but the nuts I bought with them don't hold in the holes of my scales so I can't tighten them!

The don't sit tight in the holes of my grivory because they aren't as flat as the original ones.

Has anyone had this and more importantly, has anyone found a fix?

Thanks.

Pics? What kind of nuts did you get? Did you order them or go to the hardware store and match em up?

Did you buy metric nuts\socket head bolts instead of Imperial ? I would do a search and double check the dimensions or ask nicely for help to find it.

Probably, everything is metric in Europe. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I know, but the owner of the site, Spark, doesn't want them used outside of Whine and Cheese. Feel free to ask about it in Tech Support, but we try to wipe them out when they get posted in general forums.

Its no big deal, you're not in trouble or anything.

Well, I must apologize, it seems I found this post back in 2008 that Spark put up about the jerkit,

Keep in mind, this is a site for adults, as such, you should realize that you don't have the right to not be offended, nor do you have the right to dictate what opinions others should have. If someone feels that the jerkit smiley is the best way to express their opinion, you can draw your own conclusion as to the character of the poster... but keep in mind the context of the posting itself.

I don't have a problem with it, let me check if there has been a change since Spark posted this. If its cool with him and the Soopa Mods, its cool with me.

Don't sweat it bro'! I'll just refrain from using it! NO need to apologize! ;)

Well, one of the Soopa's clued me in, if we don't want it here, then we can make it known via sticky or forums specific rules.

I don't have a problem with it, so, unless Ethan, Guyon or Bladite does, use if you FEEL THAT YOU MUST.

Like I mentioned, I'll just not use it anymore.

Okay, back on topic! ;)

Can you get a tiny screwdriver or an awl to kind of wedge against the side of the nut as you tighten the screw?

i'd look for larger ones.

possibly i'd pack some epoxy putty around it to help it set in better. ideally i'd like the whole with plastic wrap first, and then put in the nut, then the bolt from the other side, then spray a little lube on their, then pack with epoxy putty, if you see where i'm going with this :) should allow you to keep it tight, and flush, and be able to remove the bolt later..

some people have had good luck with using self-locking bolts.

next solution: ordering the correct bits from the USA for about $200 :) buy bulk ;)

Tried that but since I don't plan on carrying a toolbox with me when those screws losen up, it's not an option. Thanks though.

Unfortunately not.

How about the screwdriver trick and some blue loctite. It'll hold em on but will break loose when u want it to. Just a thought. Or find a decent hardware store, I hear there is a decent one outside dusseldorf :D

(That is the coolest sounding european town name I know)

Let me know if I can pick up some 10-32x3/4 stainless for you and drop it in the mail. The originals are 10-32x5/8. The 3/4 long will put the bolt flush with the other side of the handle. You would still have to be careful not to over tighten them. Use loctite or clear nail polish.

I experianced the exact same problem! The metric M5 nuts dont fit the Imperial socket.
