Hex nut problems

Let me know if I can pick up some 10-32x3/4 stainless for you and drop it in the mail. The originals are 10-32x5/8. The 3/4 long will put the bolt flush with the other side of the handle. You would still have to be careful not to over tighten them. Use loctite or clear nail polish.

The hardware that came with my BK7 was 10/24 x 5/8" long. I used nylok nuts to avoid the need for loctite. The nylok nuts are a snug fit but when you tighten the screw with an allen wrench, they seat quite nicely.

This post addresses the hardware requirement . . . http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ossible-Improvement-to-Becker-Handle-Hardware

Blue loctite with the original hardware will also prevent the bolts from loosening from routine use.

Good luck!

This is a picture of what a 3/4 length nut looks like in the handle (right bolt). I colored the stainless nut with a sharpie. I lost one of the original black oxide nuts. I now use clear nail polish-hence the shiny ,splotchy look close up. The left bolt is one of the originals but.... I had one of the stainless in and tightened it a wee bit too much. The nut started spinning in the scales. I had the dickens of a time getting it off. Chewed the scales a little with the wedge it theory. Next time I will go to a real hardware store instead of one of the local DYI home stores. I'm pretty sure my new hardware was imperial china! I'm still using the sharpied stainless nut. I just don't super torque it.

Hardware stores only carry metric screws here. I have a spare set of original BK-2 scales here that I can send you, but Rosentaler http://www.rosentaler-schrauben.at/Zoll-Schrauben-UNC/UNF---850.html does have some imperial hardware if you want to get some new stuff.

Danke! :) I have found the bolts (screws) but can't seem to find the correct size nut (Mutter) in stainless.

If I understand correctly (sorry, went out last night), it's impossible to get the same size nuts as the the ones supplied in stainless?

Lecter-
Just mailed you these:

Had to do a Customs Form because I put them in a 6x9 bubble mailer.
Stainless:
10-32x5/8 (the original becker size)
10-32x3/4 (longer so you can play with liners)
10-32 nuts and 10-32 nylocks
I sent one spare of each because stuff just happens!
A size 4 Metric allen will still work fine with these.

Damn girl!! Now I have to think of something nice to send you! ;)

I'll make it something good! :)

Thank you!!

No- not to worry about that. It is far cheaper for me to get them here and mail them. There are items here that to order online and have shipped within CONUS, the shipping sometimes would cost more than the item!! Foolish isn't it? It is a pleasure to help another Becker enthusiast.

Very generous of you!

Thanks again! :)

A big shout-out to lhanley!!

The hardware arrived today!!

Thanks a bunch!! :)

lhanley -- You are a kind and resourceful person, in typical Becker fashion. I have two quick questions for you: where did you end up going to buy the hardware you mailed to lecter, and how high do the nylok nuts sit? It seems like Home Depot and Lowes have only a limited selection of SS hardware. There's one Ace Hardware in my area that has a good selection of SS hardware, and it seems to be a lot more than the home stores, though perhaps at higher cost.

lecter -- I think the best thank you for lhanley might be photos posted in this thread, when you decide which bolts and nuts to use. Of course, we always want photos.

I tried the home depot version on my own knife first. Big headache. So I went to a real nut and bolt store- there are a few shipyards in my area so finding hardware vendors are not a problem. The nuts and bolts are no more expensive than the DYI stores. I knew it would cost far less to just send some over to Lecter than for him to just try to buy a few imperials in a metric world!
Although several members have posted pics of nylocks ( pics or it didn't happen!) to make it faster and easier I just dropped a nylock in for reference:

I did nothing more that what I have seen shared by the kindred spirits in the Becker forum.
You all have some serious pay it forward going on!!:D

You can try the Home depot- odds are I just got an off batch by buying the pre-packaged items. I have places like Fastenal,Screw Products, and B&S bolt withing 15 miles of me. To make sure I didn't miss with Lecter's stuff I went to B&S bolts. If the Depot, ACE or Lowe's doesn't work out for you drop me an S.O.S.
