Homemade Napalm Fire Starting Goo!

I actually did this as a kid...some 20 years ago.....brings back memories. :D still dont have hair on my arm tho :D

That's pretty neat you pyro :D

Does the goo lose it's spark catching ability over time ?

When stored are there any fumes to worry about ?

Nah, it works fine as long as you keep it in an airtight container. It will definitely dry out if you do not keep it sealed and will look like a pile of dried snot.

Yeah, there are some fumes that come off it. If you let it dry out overnight, these are greatly reduced. I used to store it in glass vials, which worked great and seemed to mostly eliminate the fumes.

And as a bonus, when stored in glass vials you get a Molotov ;)

Nice video Storl. I make this stuff when I go on canoe trips. I keep it in a small glass jar (jam jar or something), and when you want to use it, you just dip a stick in and pull some out. Works quite well.

Gasoline is pretty volatile and probably why it works so well, but are there any other less smelly solvents that might work? Have you tried any others?

Nope. I just remember making this stuff 20+ years ago and thought others might be interested. I haven't tried to use anything else.

We used to put this stuff on arrows when I was a kid. In retrospect, that was incredibly unwise.

Haha, when I was in the scouts, we were the Flaming Arrows, so of course we would always try to light our fires with a flaming arrow. Our scoutmasters wouldn't let us shoot one with a bow (understandably), but we did get to run a line into the fire and send a flaming arrow attached to the line with rings into the fire.

Great post! Brings back memories, like the time my Dad wanted some gasoline and I put it in a styrofoam minnow bucket! Or those hot humid days on the Laotian border, mixing gasoline and Ivory Snow, and aerating it in 750 lb aluminum napalm bombs. Good napalm sticks to the target and is not too rubbery or bouncy. It's a proven fire starter for sure. So what's next? White phosphorus igniters? :D

try acetone and those pink styro foamblocks.

:)

you can fit a whole sheet 4 x 8 into a glass jar when you melt it down with acetone.

burns well.

Yeah, that scene is classic. Can't even begin to tell you how much napalm we used. It was very popular, with us. I'd sure hate to be on the receiving end of it.
