Hopeless search for an EDC 4+ inch folder.

I think the Spyderco Resilience should meet your needs. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but as far as I can tell it's still the least expensive of all the suggestions I've seen thus far. Plus there should be an s35v lightweight version dropping soon.

I saw that you have changed your thinking but wanted to add - Try a Kershaw Strata or Strata XL -
They check off all of your boxes save that one side of the handle is steel.
In my experience using these knives, they are great cutter/slicers and hold an edge very well.

That they are relatively inexpensive just makes it better in my opinion. They do carry well in your pocket with a small deep-carry pocket clip.

Lockback. Not a fan of lockbacks. Slow to open and needs two hands to close (from what I read).

A lockback like a Buck 110? yea, 2 hands to open, and close. A spyderco? The hole allows one handed open, and they can be spydie flicked easily. Can also be closed one handed because they are a mid-back lock. Disengage the lock, let the choil hit your finger, then use your thumb to close the blade the rest of the way. The Native Chief and Police 4 are excellent knives and worth every penny IMO. Dismissing them because they have a back lock is just wrong.

Glad you found a solution to your problem.

A Spyderco can be a one hand opener and closer, you just need practice.

I have suggested the Spydie Military or Native Chief.

U UNBLF A few videos . . . if you're into the whole knife video thing. :)

Strata XL

Strata vs Strata XL

just get a cold steel voyager drop point or tanto 4 inch and call it a day, its not perfect as the handles are bit thick and wide but its cheap and very reliable and you will eventually get used to carrying and handling it

or get a spyderco endura or police lightweight if you really need something thinner in the pocket

That's actually a really, really good idea. How come I never thought about that? The weight and pocket footprint of SOCP and something FRN, combined, would still be less than a lot of metal-handled large folders out there.

Now I'm on my hunt for a Dragonfly K390.

Thanks a lot!
All things considered, I'd rather carry a Cold Steel AD-10.

Dude, I know you already got good info, but I would check out the Police 4 Lightweight in K390 (I carry a serrated), it is lightweight, it does not have the butt issue that the Military has nor the cutout issue, and the backlock is stronger than most locks. Under an oz an inch. Seems to meet all your parameters.

Get that Dragonfly in a wharnliffe (still K390). It's absolutely awesome, those are my two most used knives besides the Swiss Army lately. I want to put the Dragonfly, in the SAK, though, so I don't have to carry two knives.

I promise you I used to carry like four knives until I got this Police 4. I keep saying, you know, I still need to keep carrying it and using it, but all I need is that Police 4 and a SAK. It kicked the PM2 and the Matriarch 2 out of my pocket.

Spartan? How do like that brand?

I like Spartans knives. I wish they would use some less chip prone steels on their fixed blades.. the folders are fine with S35/45VN

I’m more a fan of Bill Harsey. The SHF is a great knife. Not for everyone, very simple assembly. No lock bar insert, no bearings.. It’s a great folder. Sold all my Hinderer’s in favor of the SHF.

Recently I bought a large edc. It is the Blue Spyderco Resilience S35VN bladeSpyderco Resilience C142PBL Blue S35VN $118 7-21-2022 (1).JPGSpyderco Resilience C142PBL Blue Scale S35VN (2).JPGSpyderco Resilience C142PBL Blue Scale S35VN (5).JPGSpyderco Resilience C142PBL Blue Scale S35VN (3).JPG. It has a great feel and is very sharp. They cost a little over $100 and are currently available. I think that is a lot of knife with S35VN blade and good size. If you are not familiar with the steel here is some info.
