Horsewright Knives and Leather

Sorry about the pasture land. Sucks when they can come in without warning or notice. Hopefully you have time to locate suitable replacement ground.
Nice work on the clip. I didn’t want to mod the sheath Horsewright made, so I made my own pocket sheath.

Thanks, guys, for the clip comments and the pasture sentiments.
Thats a cool idea on the clip. You were able to use the existing belt slot, didn’t even have to punch a hole for the screw? Man sure sorry to see that on the lease. Dang.
That sheath is way too nice for me to mess up so I didn’t want to do anything permanent. I made a couple leather washers for the back side and just used the existing slot.

I just wish it was easier to switch back and forth when I want it in my belt. I’ll probably end up making one to put the clip on.

About the pasture, we’ve been grazing that for 17 years so it’s a bummer to see it go, but we rent it from a developer, so we knew going in that it would be built at some point. I thought we had at least one more year. We haven’t been told to get out yet so I’m hoping maybe it’s just some monitoring. I want to know but I kinda don’t want to know.

Kinda interesting, yesterday I went to my daughter’s track meet at a “new” high school that was built 5 years ago on what used to be the neighboring ranch to that one. Lots of houses going up in that area.

Works well, you could always get 1 of Dave's boot sheath to stick in your pocket or a nite ize s carbines instead of clip, that way you could clip it on to belt loop with sheath in your pocket easy to take off no damage.
Hope your daughter had a good track meet.

A very clever idea sir! I like that. What event(s) does your daughter do? I ran high hurdles and threw the javelin in high school and college. Kinda funny but the lil ittty bitty teeny wheeny high school I went to in Scotland (Waid Academy) had never lost a track meet, in its history. Never and its an older school been there for a minute. It was such a small school that we all played all the sports. We’d get our butt handed to us in most rugby games as we jsut didn’t have a lot of beef but man if we could get the ball out to Alan our winger it was gonna be a try (score). Why cause he ran a 9.9 sec 100 meter. Nobody could catch him!

Thanks. First meet of the season, it went well.

My daughter does 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and high jump. I also did the high hurdles and high jump in high school.

Very cool. Glad to hear the meet went well. Interesting to hear we’re all high hurdler’s. Heck I don’t even know what a decent time is anymore.

My daughter and I are both tall and slim. I’m guessing you’re the same, built for jumping. She’s a freshman and I think she’s 5’10”. This was the first league meet, so I don’t know what a good time is yet. I’m relearning all this stuff from 30 years ago!

Yep I was 6’4” about 200. I remember my fastest time was at the Fife Regional Championships there in Scotland. It was 14.3. Fast enough for a Div 1 full ride offer but I turned it down. I was plagued with injuries and was just tired of standing in a waist high trash can full of ice for a hlf hour before a race and a half hour after a race. I have always theorized that it was that the shoes wern't real good back then and that the tracks were hard. After a lil bit at Hancock there in Santa Maria I quit the hurdles. Still threw the javelin though.

So a funny deal the other day:

PERFUMED COWBOYS:

So was talking with my son Logan few days back and was asking him what he was doing. Logan is a working cowboy on a large ranch in south eastern Oregon. Got his usual answer "cowboy sh.t." What kind of cowboy sh.t? I asked? So he was grafting. He'd had quite a few twins so far this year, five sets out of 30 heifers calved so far. And thats a lot! And he's just getting started on calving for the year, might have more. Twins seldom make it, one usually dies. So you can try grafting one of them onto a cow that lost her calf for whatever reason. This was something I'd heard of but had never done as it's not something that smaller outfits like we were, was gonna be able to do. Ya got to have the numbers. What I mean by that is not only do you have to have a cow that lost a calf to graft onto, ya have to have a calf that needs grafting. We did have several leppies (orphans) over the years but we had an old cow that would let the whole county nurse. So we'd point that leppy at that old cow and she'd adopt it and nurse her calf and that other one too. She was handy to have around. Anyhoo I was asking him about the process. So he'd bring the new and unsuspecting surrogate into a small pen with a head catch and catch her. He'd skin out the dead baby and tie it onto the smaller of the twins. Then he’d put some salt in the cows unhuh. This irritates said part and the cow thinks she’s just calved. Then you let the cow smell the twin with the dead calves skin tied on. The idea being that you’re trying to convince the cow that the twin is her calf since it smells like it. Once the cow starts letting the calf nurse ya can take the skin off. He had a couple that for whatever bovine reason didn’t work out. He even let one wait for a while. Sometimes a tight bag can work wonders. But, in fact she tried to kill the calf. So Logan went to Plan B. Katy Mac, his wife had left a bottle of perfume in his truck. He got the perfume and squirted some up the cow’s nostrils and then all along the calf’s back. Worked like a charm. On both of them. Even the cow that was trying to kill the calf, accepted it with the perfume as her calf. Fact the next morning when he turned them back out she was running off the other cows that were curious. So if you are ever in the north country and ya see a big cowboy that smells sweet……he’s just been grafting twins. echoscout echoscout and Sacto Sacto and any other bowlegged types in this post!

Been working on a small batch of orders. Two Paisanos for a professional elk guide here locally.

Kudos to Logan for being creative. Whatever it takes to keep em alive
Yep. Right now they’re having quite a bit of flooding in their area. He’s been busy not only getting the cattle to high ground which they’ve been able to do, but he’s been helping a lot of friends and folks he doesn’t know evacuate what they can from their homes in town.

Hate to read that. Hopefully people are able to save the important items but more importantly themselves and their family

Seen at a lil branding over the weekend. John was sporting a Horsewright belt, Paisano knife and Horizontal sheath and a Leatherman sheath. Heck we even made him his hat band. He and a friend had bought a small group of weaner steers and asked Nichole and I to come over and do the roping while he and his buddy would do the groundwork. Man was I rusty with the roping, Nichole less so but still some. Anyhoo it was fun and we got er done. Just took the "Hoolihan Man", one of my nicknames, a couple more shots than it normally would. I know, I've had a bad head cold all week, must be the cold meds.......

Yeah it seems so. No loss of life that I'm aware of and folks had warning. But there's more coming. They had it tough with wildfires last year. Burns Or, in Harney county is where they are having the trouble
