How do you store your traditional knives

This has become my main storage method. I like it. I can see most of my knives at a glance and it keeps them protected. I have a case for each size of knife (large, medium, and small)

Just found this thread! Love it. The Gerstner chest pictures are speaking to me, but I like all of the options I have seen. You folks are creative! One of the reasons I bought this desk was due to the large keyboard drawer.. I lined it with leather (I know there is some debate there but I keep the moisture packs fresh and the carbon blades oiled) and its working well for me so far. I have some room to grow by removing the pocket slips and other odds and ends as needed. My TCs have their own box that sits nearby.

dispatch184 dispatch184 Drew, you have an incredible collection and a great storage system. So far, I have resisted the urge to step up from factory knives to customs like some of those beautiful ones you have. Do you use and carry them, or are they just an investment? Do you buy and sell, or are you like me and only buy?

Drew that's a fine desk you show there but don't you find the knives bang about when you open it? I think leather is perfectly OK to stand knives on, it's when they're stored in pouches or sheathes made of leather that problems may emerge.

Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville I really like the art supply boxes, wish you could get something like that here in Europe:rolleyes: My knives are all over the place and it's getting out of hand:eek: Need a cheap solution here....

Thanks, Will

Unfortunately I can't take pictures of my old setup. I used to use a craftsman tool box. One of the smaller three drawer with the top that opens. I put rubber liners in it so it would not scratch the knives then put tubes and knifes in tubes in the top compartment.

I really like both your desk and the box but I spent more time at looking at your collection . You have some very nice ones to choose from . Well done my friend .

Very nice work on that box Txjohn Txjohn . Is that a natural color of the mesquite ?? How many knives can it hold??
Harry
That's natural color with oil finish. Top drawer has 7 divisions ( two knives upright for 6 & 5or 6 in one ) bottom drawer has two dividers with a bunch of other items tossed .I could probably get 40 -50 standing upright if I didn't care if they touched each other. My idea was a mans box for various items of interest, not safe queen collection. I would design that differently .

I just picked up this homemade machinist chest. Well made. I have been looking for such a thing to display my pocket knives. My choices have been very expensive Gerstner chests or a new Harbor Freight machinist chest that just doesn't have the vibe that I want. This box was advertised for $45 on Craigslist and I got it for $40. For my purposes it is perfect.

Thank you very much. I feel like I have only dipped my toes in the custom pool = ) I really don't have any knives that I intentionally buy not to carry at least every once in a while. I do have my favorites for EDC so others stay in the drawer not to preserve them.. just more cause I get kinda get set on the ones in my pocket. That being said the mammoth zulu spear is my nicest in terms of price and it is a challenge to actually use it.. but I have a few times. I mostly seem to buy.. but I have sold a custom or two.. mostly buy and sell production though.

Thank you Will! Fortunatly this drawer has very smooth gentle action on opening so as long as I don't yank it open the knives stay in place =)
