How old is this Buck 118?

It’s hard to tell because the picture quality is not very good. From the normal picture it does look like it has a pin but when I try to blow up the picture all that disappears and it gets very fuzzy.

I will get better pictures once I have it, so I would be looking for a flush ground pommel pin vs a tang end nut? That is the distinguishing factor?

YES. A threading on tang, Buck called it a barrel nut and the pommel will have a plug covering it in the end of the pommel. Those were used in mid-1962 and before. DM

I bought an older 118 in 440C last summer and it is a great knife for skinning, deboning and trimming up a deer. Great knife. Got it and a nice older 112 also in 440C both for $70. Best knife deal I've ever made. This knife truly impresses me.
