Got to thinking last night how my current batton is on it's way out & I don't have any other big hardwood limbs laying aorund.

I thought up a general idea of what I wanted to make. All one solid piece of material for strength.

And well... that wild hair showed up in the morning, so I wrastled with it and made this.

Haha that’s awesome! If I’m batoning at home, I just use a cheapo Harbor Freight orange shot mallet, does a pretty good job for cheap.

What kind of Indonesian wood? Looks a bit like Mahogany.

That one should last you a while!👍

I think it may have the potential to last me...Forever! Here is my line of thought. After I bash the hell out of it, I can take it to the table saw...cut off the face of it ( the beat up part ) and glue on a new face. I'll do a different type of wood to add some contrast...most likely white oak or black walnut.

So I made this out of one of about 15 4x4 cut off's I aquired, they are all different colors of Indonesian hardwood....& I think you are correct! It probably is Mahogany...it is very heavy. I don't know for sure though.

What did you use to make it? It undoubtedly was not that knife.

I used a table saw to cut most of the material out of the 4x4...A drill press with a forstner bit for the finger grooves, & a router with a small and large roundover bit to finish the edges.

That’s great! Yours is a bit more refined than mine. View attachment 2785172

Holy moly! & here I was thinking mine was to big hahhaha. What a monster!!!
