I used my knife instead of a ladder, Knives used for non knife stuff, what have you

I use my closed folder as a "punch". When I buy a 12 pack box of soda, they have perforated areas to punch open so you can open the box. Sometimes they aren't perforated very well (I assume the perforation machines get dull after awhile), so I got into the habit of automatically pulling out my folder and punching the hole open with the butt end.

I've done this too, as well as reaching for stuff in high places. I've also a knife to spear a pizza to slide it out of the oven when I don't feel like sliding the rack out and I've also used it to slide the rack out.

You used your knife as a reaching aid, not a ladder.

"instead of" ≠ "as a"

Spoonrobot is right
"as a substitute or replacement; in the place or stead of someone or something:
We ordered tea but were served coffee instead.
instead of, in place of; in lieu of:
You can use milk instead of cream in this recipe."

To use the knife as a step stool brought a mental picture to me of sticking the knife into a wall and stepping up on it as ladder step.

My answer is: I've used my knife as a backscratcher where I can't reach it myself.

really? how about: toothbrush, ear wax cleaner, wart removal... the list is endless as to what a "non knife" task could be. lol.. just giving ya S#!t... knives end up doing almost anything in a pinch. over the years, i've used them for some fairly non tradtional knife uses, like: wedging under a table leg so i could work without a wobble, minor surgury, as the only eating utensil for weeks, an anchor to tie off ropes for lifting equipment, a hammer lots of times, a spear once, and one time to cut through a mud wall to avoid taking walking paths in suspected IED locations.

Well... not exactly a toothbrush, but would a toothpick count? :D
Wart removal, yep a few times.
Ear wax cleaner, yep.... from under my fingernail, not the ear.

The only other things I've read here so far that I haven't used a knife for (yet) is your mud wall and a step.

And just today I was outside showing a customer some paperwork, and after sitting some papers down on a table I needed a paperweight (windy day). There weren't any clean options available so I just grabbed my folder and used that. And when I did I immediately thought about this thread ;).

Sometimes I baton and chop wood with my big woods blades, and according to a bunch of purists that's obscene abuse :D

Seriously though, I've used machetes as just about anything imaginable. Hammers, spades, draw knives, sharpening stones (covered the flats of the blade in a thin coating of fine silt), to crack stubborn duck egg shells, spatulas while cooking stubborn duck eggs, ect. As far as knives go I've some prying, digging, shimming, ect. with my knives. Occasionally stabbing one into a tree for use as a hook to hang clothes off of while bathing

Yeah, I've definitely done similar things, though usually more during picnic lunches.

Killgar beat me with his early post
but heck yea my Case Canoe gets used as a paper weight often.

I've used the spine on my busse TGLB to smash/pry apart old pieces of structural lumber held together with nails and or screws; took most of the coating off the spien as I was hitting the screws directly. Random demo work LOL. Not to mention splitting the pieces of remaining 2x12 lumber and then chopping it to length; made it into tiny kindling effectively. :D

It's starting to get a nice amount of wear on it IMHO. More to come LOL.
