If you've found "the one", have you kept "the others"?

Interesting, I never looked at it this way😁

Over the years I found some near perfect edc knives for me to rotate through. Ease of carry plays a big role to me, too.

But I kept most of my collection, only selling off or giving away the cheaper stuff.
Freudian slip - I really do love knives. ;)

After many years I‘ve found the Giant Mouse Ace Reo. Kinda think it’s “the one” for EDC: 3.32” blade, 3oz., & Magnacut @ 62/63. So I‘ve probably gone thru 200 to find “the one” and have maybe sold off 40-50 of those. But I’m keeping the remainder and looking closely for additional acquisitions!
Right there with you on the ACE REO. Just a great, clean design. Good in hand, excellent blade shape. I was hesitant to order given my experience with other GM ACE knives made in Italy, but this one is different. Copper grease and 'LSK, Italy' on the liner, tell the story - LionSteel. The black G10 I received had absolutely no issues with detent, lock up, centering, grind or fit and finish.

The one for me ... is at least 20. My knives change with the seasons, moods. They change with my life. I have more knives than socks.

I am guilty of finding something I really like (because I'm a bit ocd and don't find all that much that speaks to me aesthetically) and not feeling whole until I have doubles of it.

For me, the "one" would be my CRK Large Sebenza DP Ebony...

I've sold most of my knives since i've got this one, i'm around 12 now and it's becoming harder to trim the collection... I need a smaller knife for office and dressed up carry and that place is took by my QuietCarry Waypoint, the Fallkniven GP and the James Wayland... I've kept my Spyderco Pacific Salt 2 as my "hiking folder"... my Spydiechef stay in the kitchen most of the time as my "snack prep knife"... my Pm2 and Endura are the "hard use knives"... The others knives in my collection are mostly GEC slipjoints.

Pretty simple concept, but I'll do my best to make it hard to understand!

Some lucky enthusiasts have found a single knife that does all the things: cutting, looks, feels good to use.

So, if you are one of these people, have you sold off the rest of your collection?
This isn't exactly what you're asking, but it's close.
I've found the brand of fixed blades I prefer above any other brand. I've purchase several of their current offerings, compared them, and sold all of the ones I didn't consider to be "the best" for my uses/wants.
I have 3 pocket knives that do everything I want. 2 of them are the same model, just different steels. I'm selling all the others. The only reason I'm keeping the 3 is so I can rotate when one loses its edge more than I like. Then I don't have to sharpen immediately.

I suppose I'd say that I have found the few. The others have been, or are in the process of being, sold. I'll probably end up with a total of 5 or 6 knives (including all fixed blades and folders, but excluding kitchen knives).

I have been using and carrying the same knife for over 25 years. Once you find The One, you have settled the need and are free to pursue all other knives, no matter how impractical, purely as wants.

Nothing wrong with a harem, even if one is your favorite.

Since you went there first...I was going to say "imagine Raquel Welch as a blonde, a brunette and a readhead...why not have all three?" But maybe I shouldn't say that.

I have “one” kind that I use 99.9% of the time (a buck 110). I kept the other styles I don’t use or gave them to my brother.

i pocket carry it. I like a hefty-handled knife with a near 4” blade. I don’t like pocket clips. The 110 suits me and I can sharpen it easily and touch it up without a lot of specialized tools. A 110 can be replaced pretty much anywhere.
