In the Shop - Lots of Kitchen, Hunting and Fillet Knives with plans for Jade!

I have finished three more kitchen knife sets and a few Buck 110's and 4 Case Barehead peanuts. I think I could be just fine with only working with Jade and the Shattuckite/Chrysocolla stone I get from Rodney!

The three knife kitchen set in what looks to be black Jade is actually done with a very dark green high chime and fine grained Wyoming Jade. These are brutal as the bolsters have a double curve in the bolsters with a curve outward and a curve from the top of the bolster to the tang. I honestly did not think I could do the complex cut when I got the knives but I went ahead with an attempt. They are the most complex cut I have ever done and although not as tight a fit as my normal nearly invisible lines - they are darn good fit lines. I do all of my fit lines with nothing more than eye/hand coordination on round diamond wheel turning at about 1800 RPM in a water spray!

Tomorrow I have to finish the cleaning, modify the Kapoosh blocks for the sharpening steels, fill out the ID cards, photograph the knives and they will be ready to deliver to Jade West.

I think I have about 6 to 7 more weeks left to just work Jade and I am really looking forward to heading out to the shop every day again.....

Mike,
Your obviously having fun with all the Jade Knives. The complex double curve knives are supurb looking....I always enjoy seeing you succeed in a new challenge. Seems like the Jade polish is exceptionally good, as I know many Jades don't polish to a very high gloss. I'm sure Jade West will be happy with these beauties. Are the Buck 110's and Case Barehead Peanut Jades for them also? Wondering if you decided on getting the new Chrysocolla from Rodney?
Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Dennis

Dennis,

Yes all of the Jade works are for Jade West and yes I got the new Chrysocolla/Shattuckite piece from Rodney too.

All of these Jades took a better than usual polish. The Wyoming takes a near mirror glossy polish and three of the Ogden mine pieces take a glossy polish.

Stunning! I agree with Dennis, the double curve Wyoming jade knives are incredible! Wish I could get my hands on a set of those!!!

Well my non Jade Buck 110 and Case barehead Peanut sales have been few and far between for several months now so next year I may do a whole bunch of Kitchen knife sets.

I found a new kitchen knife set to use in my shop. The knives in the set are Japanese made 67 layer stainless steel Damascus with a VG10 core. I am kind of excited as the Viking knives are no longer being made!

In addition to the kitchen sets I have done a whole batch of "Pocket Jewelry"! These are all sold already to Jade West. The white Nephrite Jade is from the Polar mine in British Columbia and very rare. In fact this is the first time I actually had white Nephrite Jade to work with and it was a VERY small piece.

Michael,
Thanks for posting pictures of all these outstanding Jade knife creations. The polish and craftsmanship is excellent. Hope that Jade West turns them over quickly. The "Pocket Jewelry" group is equally impressive. I especially like the 'Barehead' knives. I wish you had some extra White Nephrite Jade as they are sure great looking. They remind me of the Myanmar White 'Ice' Jadeites that I was so fortunate to get from you.
Happy 2014 to ALL,
Dennis

I delivered the knives to Jade West today so I thought I would post some pictures now that I have a bit of time!

This is a set of 6 Wusthof steak knives and they look better in hand! I had bought this piece of Jade and at the time was told it was Kutcho Jade. It was dirty and dry when I bought it so that did probably contribute to the incorrect ID.

Well, now that it is cut and polished Kirk and Nikki have identified it as absolutely Polar Mine Jade which is much more valuable. I sold several knives with this Jade so if you have one contact me and I can send you a corrected card for the Jade type!

This is a set of 10 Viking Professional Kitchen knives. The no longer make these knives so the knives have become collector items even without the Jade scales!

The Jade used is from the Ogden Mine and is from a section mined several years ago. The Jade has a swirling mix of colors and structures which make it a very persnickety Jade to carve and polish. The Jade now coming out of the Ogden mine is a mostly green colored Jade that is actually a lot easier to work with but just does not have WOW factor that this mix of colors has.

This is a set of 10 Viking Professional Kitchen knives. The no longer make these knives so the knives have become collector items even without the Jade scales!

The Jade used is from a huge Jade boulder from Boulder Creek in the Cassiar Mountains in British Columbia. This is a very top grade apple green Jade of Jewelry (AAA grade) gem quality. It is the best apple green Jade I have with no black inclusions.

This is the most valuable set of knives I have ever done.

I am still working with Jade to get some knives into my inventory for sale. Here are some photos of the steak knife set, knife #2000 and several pocket jewelry knives on my bench today. I should have these finished in a few days. I had the camera in the shop so I thought I would post a few pictures of the Jade. This is some of the best Jade I have ever worked with and is from what was found in Jade West's Ogden mine this year. The Jade from the Ogden mine is usually a much darker green and at times practically a black and a swirling mix of structures and colors.

This Jade has the color and polish that I usually found only on top grades of Siberian Jade so it is a remarkable year for what was found at the Ogden mine.

I was very fortunate to be able to get any of this Jade.....

Well, I showed the pictures of your Jade kitchen knives to my wife. Now, after years of ignoring my hobby, interest, and collection of your art in stone, she is suddenly VERY interested! She was enamored with these Jade handled knives and actually asked about acquiring a set. I asked her why she was suddenly showing interest in my knife collection! ;)

I finished the steak knife set today and the 'snowfield" Ogden Jade is right up with the best Siberian in the polish it will take and the color to me is even better than the paler Siberian color.

This is a really nice set of knives made by Wusthof for Nieman Marcus.

aksockeye - This is the same Jade I plan to use on the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling Pro 7 Inch Fillet Boning Knife Kitchen you had asked about. I have the knife and a sheath for it on the way.
